Also there are also some schools (yes still) that do not have websites. I know of one with an excellent reputation run by a non internet using old style ballet teacher who would never participate in a festival but has a string of RBS Associate students and those who have gone onto vocational training. I'm afraid I do not know your area. Have you tried asking Associate/Easter/Summer school teachers who may have contacts around the country.- 49 replies

Absolutely. This is not acceptable. Ask to see copies of their anti bullying policy. I would strongly consider putting it in writing, even if it is just an email. The school are obliged to follow certain procedures.

I have heard that Tring is excellent on the academics. I'm not a great fan of the head at my child's school, but I still think it is the best school for them at this moment in time.

Finals were very late this year I've not heard much either.

Dd too is with BUPA and has had no issues accessing treatment.

Don't feel bad ballet4boyz. Lots of parents can't make Prize Day. It is worth trying to make the effort for Year 11 though.

Parents are invited & often there is a bit of a coffee morning/music performances in the canteen beforehand. Afterwards you can take your child out for the afternoon if you wish.

Not to mention spending the entire weekend unpacking, washing, ironing & repacking! Managed to fit in taking dd to visit previous dance school, taking ds to sports practice, cinema trip, taking ds to his show rehearsal, shopping & tonight a family birthday meal so far!

I have seen a local dance school in the past refer to one of their students having been offered a "full scholarship". As I knew the mother of the child in question I knew that they were in fact on an MDS.

Sorry to hear that too Sarah2203. Last year's leaving Year 11 had quite a few MDS's to put back in the pot. I don't think there are as many this year, however the current Year 10 who will leave next year do have quite a few MDS's so it is definitely worth trying again next year.

I'm assuming that they don't mean a bustle! I think they mean a practice pull on tutu skirt as opposed to a full tutu incorporating leotard.

I had read your original post to mean that your dd studies with a Private teacher but is taking her exam at a local dance school (presumably as private teacher does not have enough candidates). Its fairly common for schools/teachers to band together to put on an exam session. If this is the case and its her private teacher who has prepared her for the exam then I wo0uld say that what she says should be what your dd does. If, however I have read it wrongly and your dd has been prepared by the teacher of the local dance school then her shool, her candidate, her rules. My dd took her IF at vocational school and wore flats.

It is her exam so she should wear whatever she is most comfortable in. If she was attending a Public Centre then she may well have been with candidates wearing other shoes/uniform.

There is no Lower School Musical Theatre Course, just Dance or straight Drama.

I had been recommended this website by someone on mumsnet as a good place to exchange information, ideas and the ups and downs of being a dance parent. Unfortunately I see that it has been hi-jacked by those who merely wish to antagonise. As you can see from my username which references one of the most diverse shows around at the moment, accepting of all races, sexual orientations and gender I am a believer in tolerance and acceptance but I am not prepared to accept the erosion of my rights and feelings and that of my children. Unlike Kate I have never thought of myself as a feminist, but I have always been a supported of equality and that includes in the dance and sporting worlds. However I wholeheartedly support Kate and other women like her who do not wish to be called by what they see as an offensive term. This forum is not for me, it is a shame as it came highly recommended.

I think that it is to be applauded that the RAD have for quite some time had a policy of allowing students to wear the uniform & study the syllabus relevant to the gender that person identifies with. Unlike certain unnamed musical theatre rights holders who specifically state that roles must not be taken by an actor of the "wrong" sex.

I have never seen intolerance on any of the threads. I have seen support for transgender people or parents of those transitioning. I have also seen concern that young people are being pressured into making potentially irreversible decisions on the basis of not liking to do traditionally boyish/girlish things rather than a genuine feeling of being born as the wrong sex. One particularly concerning thread was from the mother of a 4 year old child born a boy. She admitted she'd always wanted a girl & dressed the child in girls clothes & only gave girls toys. Understandably the child began to identify as a girl. She wanted advice on how to get the primary school to accept the child was transgender & she talked about transitioning around the age of 10. I actually feel quite offended that i that I am described as part of a nest of vipers.
