  1. Anyone have experience of a non syllabus class near Nottingham? I have found a great teacher in Long Eaton but all they can offer me is Advanced 2 and I'm not a big fan...
  2. I'm not sure how comfortable I'd be answering that question either! In agreement with above, another potential answer may be they are identifying if the organisation is contributing to the student fees for example HM Armed Forces but I would have assumed those type of questions would have come later!
  3. Hi RichieN I would have no idea how many students are actually put onto the short waiting list so I couldn't advise your teacher what the chances are. However I was on a waiting list for Mid associates when I was younger and a place did come up so don't loose hope! P.s Very sad to read the White jumpers with the whopping blue logo have been replaced now
  4. I have recently been looking into this too, I'm struggling to keep up with the various certificates here and there. Especially as a few of my quals have been completed at work rather than at school. I found these links which were helpful, not necessarily for ballet but in general. Educational levels https://www.gov.uk/what-different-qualification-levels-mean/overview And RAD Ballet exams as UCAS points https://www.rad.org.uk/achieve/exams/Results,%20qualifications%20and%20recognition/ucas-points Potentially other syllabus' have points too.
  5. @Terpsichore Excellent thank you very much for the link! That's a really useful tool for the future too. I've noted down the two schools to give a call, fingers crossed! @BadBallerina Yes I'd had a look at Danscentre I noticed the teachers have some great experience. I ruled it out because I'm not sure how confident I'd be driving on the country roads to get there, I'm too used to driving on the righthand side of the road just now! Maybe once I'm braver
  6. Hahaha, I did get to bring my own wand though!
  7. Yes, I'd agree it is the quality of teaching I am seeking however I have attended adult ballet classes before that have been skipping in a circle so if the option is possible I'd like people to advise me on any advanced classes. Currently I can't find any adult classes at all. If I am unsuccessful I will rent a space and practice in my own time.
  8. Hello all, I will be moving to Inverness for a short period of time with work and I am on the hunt for an advanced ballet class. Preferably non syllabus. I have already been googling to death and asked a few friends but the local schools seem relatively new and unlikely to have the standard I desire. It seems my best bet is to commute all the way to Edinburgh dance base for an intense 5 hours on a friday! Can anyone from the area or have visited shed any light? I have a vehicle! Thankyou
  9. Yes Contemporary is usually reserved for the older dance student however I can't see the negatives in starting early. Some styles are quite powerful and require a good base ballet technique although others like Cunningham and Graham I'd say are beneficial. They may develop better posture and better use of the floor in your child, as well as gaining the desired strength and they are also structured like a ballet class so she can keep an eye on her progress. The modern requirement is new to me, I personally wouldn't be concerned about it. Try to find out what the Contemporary style is perhaps youtube a class and decide from there. I'm a thumbs up
  10. Good effort for being so ambitious! Keep at it, late starters can be serious dark horses. It sounds like you're aware of just how difficult this path is going to be which is a bonus to be realistic. Is there a specific teacher you get on with well? Perhaps you can volunteer your time to assist with the baby/young classes and in return be paid with your lessons? You can try to make the most out of each lesson by buying the syllabus or asking for a copy of the class then repeating it by yourself in a church hall or local cheap space. Do all the other students know your situation? Potentially one may live nearby and be able to give you a lift in to classes? Your parents, you'll just have to prove wrong with your dedication! You're going to have to work very hard, I wish you the best of luck and success.
