  1. Another thing we have experienced is this...following the audition the director will sometimes select a FEW (3-5 max) dancers that are of interest and have these stay for an informal interview.  A few times my dancer has had VERBAL contract offers made and been told to expect to receive a contract the next week. However, the email received the next week states unfortunately no more contracts are available.

  2. Yes, I have the same question.

Is it critical and valued more to have the CV reflecting some sort of official "trainee" or other type of program?

I'm specifically referring to the trainee programs that include a tuition payment, when one has already graduated from his/her professional school.

Or could one continue to take daily class, cross train, supplement with privates and re-audition next year without the costly training program on the CV?   (Like ALLWRONG is mentioning above)

How much weight is put in the CV vs in person audition performance by these directors?

Of course the trainee program may offer connections or opportunities one couldn't replicate by the do-it-yourself method?

  3. Thanks for the post about an open audition (Houston Ballet)!  Revisiting this topic somewhat....

I have a question upon just reading and it may need a separate heading/post....and I'm a little late in reading this!

Do you think one has a better chance of being seen at an open audition like this  (at the Company's home studio) or attending one of the job fairs (example:  Barcelona's Grand Audition, which Julie Kent - director of Houston Ballet Company is attending)????

I think the Grand Audition type of job fair requires a preliminary screen and acceptance, where the open audition example could allow anyone/everyone - just wondering about the numbers and having enough barre space, being seen, ect...for both options.  Or if possible logistically and cost-wise should one try to attend both?  (maybe not this Houston Ballet example - very far and $$)

Anyone with any first hand experiences to share?

  4. Congratulations for your son!  I hope he is enjoying is career!

Did he have to reply to Dutch National on the spot or did he have time to consider/respond/sign an offer letter?

I just wanted my dancer to be prepared on the date how to verbally respond if this happens.  I guess it's very reassuring that your son received a kind reply from the AD and no bridges burned by rescinding the acceptance and that the dancers are not held to the offer.

    Thanks for sharing!😀

    That's not accurate.

Paris Opéra Ballet has two entry auditions: the internal one for students at their school, and the external one open to anyone from anywhere, including unsuccessful candidates from the internal audition!

Current étoiles (all three of whom trained elsewhere and in two cases danced professionally before attempting the Paris audition) who entered the company through the external audition are Ludmila Pagliero, Park Sae-Eun, and Hannah O'Neill.

In 2022 the sole female dancer awarded a full contract had been a principal at Pennsylvania since 2016, and started at the bottom again in Paris in 2020 with short-term contracts. The top ranked man (of two engaged) had danced with Boston for some years.

So @Boyballetdancer if your DC decides Paris is an option, it's not impossible.

Any information on the application process or links to the External audition option at POB?  We can't seem to find any information about how to apply to this from their website.  I believe I recall last year they posted on their instagram an announcement about an open audition, but it was late in the year, around July...  I would think most company auditions would have concluded by this time with contracts signed, etc..  I wonder if they hired anyone from this audition??

I realize this one is a long shot for my dancer!   Thanks!

A few days after Grand Audition is held in Barcelona in early February, YAGP usually holds a job fair in Stuttgart. If your son is graduating from a YAGP affiliated school (one that recruits from YAGP, basically), he can automatically attend, otherwise I believe they use audition videos to screen potential attendees. (They also do one in Nashville, in the US, but I’m assuming Germany would be more convenient). A lot of company directors from the US and Europe attend.

I wouldn’t rule out junior companies. Most are tuition-free and provide stipends. They often tour and have choreographers come to set new works on them and also give the dancers opportunities to dance with the main company. This is different than post-grad trainee programs that require tuition. I know of almost no dancers that go straight from school into a main company.

    Hello - another few questions...

If anyone has experience with the Grand Audition in Barcelona and the Stuttgart YAGP job fairs....can you share what time to expect these to be concluded?  Trying to arrange travel / flights etc and deciding if we can depart the day the evens end or need to plan on departure the following morning.

Also, any experiences to share about the quality of the events?  Do the dancers feel they can be seen or is it overwhelmingly large in size of dancers?

Do the company directors attend BOTH the Nashville TN USA AND the Stuttgart locations?

  7. How long do the dancers usually have to respond to a company contract offer (if one is so fortunate to receive an offer!)??

Dutch National Ballet Junior Company is hosting an audition mid-Jan 2023 and has notified the applicants that they will receive results the day of the audition.  Since this is early in the audition schedule, what if the dancer wants to wait to see what other (if any) offers may occur??  How is this usually handled??

This is a new season of experiences for us!  Thank you!

  8. Hi To the Pointe Parent.

Congratulations to your daughter!  We are in the same situation as you!

I believe that QAH is only allowed to provide housing to certain schools/universities moving forward, although in the past they did allow ENBS students.

My daughter would also like to live where the majority of other students are going to board.  I believe there are a few that are going to book at Lightfoot Hall and Bowden Court.  I'm in the process of gathering all the required paperwork materials - VISA, academic record, etc... and then hope to arrange the accommodation soon.

If you would like to PM I'd be happy to discuss some of our details!

  9. Hello!  We are also searching for some of the same answers.  If anyone has a child a ENBS (or attended in the recent past) and could share some insight it would be appreciated!  Trying to make a quick deadline decision about attendance for fall 2021/2022 year.

  10. Hi MariCat and Valentina,

I seem to recall reading that there would not be any evaluations during the summer course for the year round training and that those auditions were going to be held separately.  Perhaps I am incorrect?

Do you know definitely that students will be observed at CG for the year round?

Also, the 2 week course is very late -in August - wouldn't they already have their placements for the fall by then?

  11. Hello MPatti,

You stated that international applicant finals are virtual.  When was this announced?  My daughter is an international applicant and received an invitation for an in-person final audition at the end of March with the possibility of this being cancelled due to COVID.  I'm just asking if you maybe heard more up-to-date information?  We haven't received any notifications of changes to this in-person invitation.  We are trying to wait a little to make sure it is definite before securing flights, etc...

    Thanks!

  12. Just revisiting this thread to see if anyone can update the information regarding accommodations and ENBS?  Did the school move locations and is this now a different issue for boarding?  Is the Queen Alexandra House still being used for the students?  We are traveling from out of the country and trying to assess the housing situation, prices, availability of food services, etc.  Any information would be greatly appreciated!  Thank you!

  13. Can anyone share what to expect at the ENBS audition?  There are 2 days listed for the audition.  Why does the audition last for 2 days?

After the audition, how long does it usually take to receive the results?

Also some general questions regarding ENBS...

Is there a boarding option?  Their website states most students use youth hostels.  Does anyone have experience with this?  Does the school help arrange boarding or make recommendations?
We are traveling from out of the country so I'm concerned about the boarding situation/safety/etc..

How is ENBS different from RBS?

    I believe RBS has boarding?

Do most graduates from ENBS go on to have professional employment contracts?  Does the school help with this?

    Thank you!

  14. Thanks Jan and Sam for this information!

So, are there many students entering the programme after age 13 through competition scouting by an invitation?  I'm wondering if the 2 -15 yrs girls that moved into the Corps de Ballet had been trained at POB from early ages?  It just seems like a trend at RBS is to acquire these desirable students in the US from other schools and then claim that they have been trained at RBS.  When actually, their core, fundamental training was done somewhere else.  It's hard then, as a parent, to determine if the school is really "the best" for a younger, promising dancer, or more of a finishing programme leading to possible employment for a upper teen dancer that has already had solid training?  As a parent of a 13 yr old, trying to decide where is the best training, it's a bit confusing.

I guess my questions are asking if this is also perhaps the case at POB?

    Thanks again!

  15. Hello,

Can anyone comment on the quality of training at Paris Opera Ballet School?  My 13 yr old DD could audition this May and we are trying to evaluate if it's worth the effort.  I'm also not from a dance background and find this all fairly overwhelming and hard to evaluate.  I've been reading another thread about the small number of British born/raised dancers that rarely progress from WL to US.  Is there a similar pattern at POB?  It seems that age 13 is the last year to audition formally....so is that to assume that the students aren't assessed out and all graduate?  Is the training that good that all are able to move into the Corps or find other jobs after graduation and progress through the years in the school?  Are they also recruiting students from competitions (we have not gone that route yet) into the school on scholarships? Any thoughts would be welcome!!
