  1. i went on friday loved all the performances and just seeing them all and collecting many, many prospectuses (my shoulder is killing me from carrying such a huge bag round all day) makes me definitely want to apply next year! also feel very MT inspired though i can't sing on my own.... in a big group i'm fine and the very few workshops/singing lessons (group of course) i've had i've really enjoyed but still not confident enough to perform a solo at any auditions..however things like move it make me desperately want to apply to places like urdang which is totally annoying
  2. Hello lovely dance people! So i have a ballet show coming up and as per my teacher has bought costumes without considering those of us who need to wear a bra underneath... I have a gorgeous white ballet dress and the back of it is relatively low (though a normal bra could probably be hidden) and it has super thin straps. I was wondering if anyone knew of any nude coloured bras that are strapless or have clear straps and aren't too bulky that would be okay under a white leo on stage? At an E/F cup no bra on stage prancing about really is not an option. Thanks in advance
  3. I like the idea of dance photography I think their are some great dance photographers out there and love their work etc. but yeah I guess it is super competitive it's not so easy to stand out and be unique about it is it?
  4. Dance physio fascinates me in a way but I don't think I'm scientific enough to get into it, I gave all that kind of thing up a while ago and have great respect for those who can get into it. Pilates/fitness instructor is definitely an option as that's what my mum does so I know exactly how to get into it etc. considering doing a fitness instruction qualification in the summer then I have that on the side wherever I go next.
  5. I used to hate pe but liked it when I got to upper school as we were offered dance and trampolining etc instead of just games such as hockey and netball, I ended up taking it at GCSE and really enjoyed the theory as well.
  6. Physio is definitely out for me then, my a levels consist of a fashion and clothing btec (equivalent of two a levels) and dance, drama AS level...
  7. Hiya, I was just thinking, if for whatever reason I don't become a professional dancer, or I do and it only lasts a few years, what other jobs are there in the industry to go into, other than the obvious choice of teaching?
  8. Good luck aurora345!! I think waiting is almost worst than the audition itself! I'm hoping to audition for Enbs next year however it's more for the experience as I don't think my chances are all that high, especially given the numbers that they take.
  9. I find this all really interesting to read everyone's opinions, stories and comments around this kind of topic... Makes a very interesting read
  10. Oh yeah that makes sense thanks for clearing that up
  11. Am I being really stupid but what's 6.1/2/3 ????????????
  12. My dance teacher has told me I definitely have sway back knees a couple of times in the past but I don't think I would've picked up on it myself if she hadn't of mentioned, I don't really know if I've experienced any problems with it though...now I'm curious.
  13. I don't think you can go to Elmhurst at 18 because that's a sixth form, but I definitely said in the email to ENBS that I was currently doing my A Levels and would be applying on completion of those and they said that was absolutely fine and they've had a fair few students do the same previously. RBS and BTUK said the same.
  14. I have emailed ENBS about entry at 18 because I thought that all ballet schools took from 16 otherwise it'd be too late, but turns out that's not the case - another thing that made me think a bit more about ballet!
  15. Hello! So, I'm starting to think a bit more seriously about auditioning for schools next year (age 18) and any advice/tips would be very much appreciated. For example... How many places should I audition for - what have people's limits been on audition fees? I'm doing lots of overtime at work at the moment in an attempt to start saving up, but what's a reasonable limit? Any suggestions on where to apply? When I first considered a dance career I ruled about ballet entirely because I'm slightly overweight, not exactly small chested, and only about 5ft... but the more I think about it the more I want to give it a go because I get more and more obsessed with ballet every week. So I'm thinking London Contemporary, Laban, London Studio Centre, but now I'm also starting to consider Ballet Theatre UK, Tring Park, ENBS etc... I don't really want to give up on ballet and wherever I go has to have some kind of classical training still which I think most do anyway. I told my ballet teacher I wanted to go to a dance school today which I've been scared to do for ages and she said 'yes, you're still here for a year aren't you so we can still do a lot with you.' which of course filled me with hope.... but I never mentioned where I wanted to go exactly and she never suggested anything. I'm hoping to audition for BTUK and TP Classical Ballet Associates, and I'm looking into summer schools as well so if anyone has any more suggestions about what I can do between now and auditions for full time training - let me know. I think I've said everything I wanted to now... All advice will be very much appreciated!! Lauren
  16. I think I'll probably just leave this one as my dance place is doing a couple of days intensive anyway... Enbs do an Easter course don't they?
  17. snowflake - can i ask what strength your dd has/which one you recommend?
  18. ooh that looks good, much less hassle than trying to make one much as i do like that idea from drdance... i just need one that i can use to stretch arabesques as this is something i need to work on majorly and that looks like it'd do the trick - thank you!
  19. I already have therabands but those on their own aren't quite the same - not quite sure how I could use one to convert into one of these...
  20. Hello! So a while ago I discovered the flexistretcher (incase you haven't yet - take a look here http://www.flxbody.com/)and I've been wanting one they look really rather helpful with arabesques and extensions etc I feel it would be very beneficial... however they are outrageously priced, and I was wondering if anyone knew of a cheaper, just as effective alternative?
  21. does anyone know if it's too late to apply for the spring course? I have had the application form printed off for ages but haven't got round to doing photos to send off with it!
  22. I've accidentally followed this topic and ended up with 849760498430 emails.... *face palm* somebody help i'm new here!
  23. Sorry I meant 5 hours a fortnight not week!
  24. At my school the course is mainly contemporary because that allows the most scope for people to interpret however they like! But really anything goes. I'd never really done much of anything except ballet before the course.
