Royal Ballet (ROH) season announcement 2019/20
Thalia replied to Don Q Fan's topic in Ballet / Dance news & information
I’m through now but wondering if they have the prices right for this – side amphi for Manon £23? Seems very high when some of those seats for performances are £18...- 387 replies

Leticia Stock returned a little while ago. She was in the later performances of Romeo & Juliet and was in the mixed programme (she was certainly in Symphony in C). She has also been on the tour.

According to Rhys Antoni Yeoman’s Instagram story, it was Shale Wagman’s last day with ENB today. Shale posted a story yesterday that suggested he might be on his way. Rina Kanehara has also posted a photo of herself with him saying that she’ll miss him.

Royal Ballet Japan tour performances June 2019
Thalia replied to Naomi M's topic in Performances seen & general discussions
Yes! I had noticed this with the pair of them (together and separately in all manner of pieces) and now I deliberately seek it out. It’s something I love to see because for me it makes their dancing all the more complete and takes their characterisation to a deeper level. -
I can’t speak for it in terms of dance, but zinc oxide tape is the business when it comes to preventing blisters while trekking and climbing. I even use it when breaking in new shoes. If the skin starts to feel a bit sore but is not yet a blister, some spray plaster (build up a few layers) and zinc oxide tape over the top works well to head it off. For a developed blister I’d just pop it if appropriate, clean it and put the zinc oxide tape straight on to it — the blister should start to dry out quite nicely through the tape. The zinc oxide helps to prevent infection. I find that the tape often needs to be held down by other strategically placed strips or some micropore to avoid it moving around; I have trouble getting stuff to stick to me, too!

The skirt was quite full so she probably wouldn’t have felt him fiddling about with it unless he yanked on it. 😂

She hadn’t let them go from around her arms so they were in front of her dress rather than trailing behind. Thought he improvised very well.

Weren’t they just? The orchestra, too. I thought everyone was rather brilliant. Firebird got me teary-eyed, even before the farewell to Kish, A Month in the Country was wonderful and Symphony in C was the most enjoyable performance of that in the whole run for me. Great evening.

For sale: RB Romeo & Juliet tonight 11/6 SCS £11
Thalia replied to Thalia's topic in Ticket Exchange & Special Offers
Ticket now spoken for. -
I have upgraded my ticket so have SCS D3 going spare for R&J tonight 7.30pm. £11. It’s a paper ticket but can arrange handover before the performance as I will be there. The ticket doesn’t say restricted view but there is a bit of one and some heads of the people in front may get in the way. Having said that, I have stood there before and had a very good view. Please pm if interested.

I was at the matinee for Naghdi and Ball yesterday and loved it. Others have already said most of what I felt about the performance so I’ll leave out my general thoughts apart from that my heart was pounding (in a good way) throughout all the pas de deux! I just wanted to pick up on a few things I noticed in particular. There was a comment earlier in the thread about Romeo’s solo in the ball scene and the lack of ‘peacocking’ – I agree as I don’t feel this is a show-off moment but rather a way of Romeo expressing his delight and yearning in his newly-found love for Juliet. I found Ball’s dancing and acting to be exquisitely judged and beautifully stated. It was as if Romeo was in a reverie and he just couldn’t help himself; everything in his world had fallen away and he was caught in an irresistible orbit around Juliet. Another moment I was taken with was the point in the tomb scene where Romeo takes the poison. I found it so touching how he lay down next to Juliet (or tried to...) in a warped, grim and final reference to the bedroom pdd. I love how the various different pairings in the run have put their own mark on what they do at this point, but I found this one to be the most affecting of those I’ve seen. I understand the comments about Juliet stabbing herself a little late, but I took it to be her taking a little moment to muster up the courage to do it, which made it seem more realistic than some of the other portrayals. I really got the sense of her strength seeping away as she sank to the floor. It also took her a while to pull the knife out – again, I felt this hesitancy added to the realism.

ROH Dining options
Thalia replied to HelenLoveAppleJuice's topic in Performances seen & general discussions
The pasta pots are now £6, but I think it’s still a reasonable price for what you get. The offering has been vegetarian every time I’ve been and it’s always been tasty. I wish they did the pasta pots at other times, too. If they did that and a glass of wine for a tenner/£12, I’d eat there every time. Wishful thinking! 😂- 12 replies

Royal Ballet Promotions Predictions 2019
Thalia replied to capybara's topic in Performances seen & general discussions
Is anyone ever promoted up two levels or is it just one rung at a time? My candidates for promotion would be Sambé, Dixon, Dubreuil, Sissens, Edmonds, O’Sullivan, Dias, Gasparini and Storm-Jensen. -
ROH Membership - is it worth it?
Thalia replied to JNC's topic in Performances seen & general discussions
I’m a Friend. I like to see various casts so I will see a production several times. I find that most of the ‘good’ cheap seats tend to be gone by the time general booking opens (at least the ones I like to sit in) and sometimes availability for those is lacking even when Friends booking opens, but on the whole I do pretty well with purchasing tickets in the priority period. I try to go to Friends rehearsals whenever I can and really appreciate the opportunity (and the pasta pots!). I would say try it and see how you find it.- 51 replies

Yes, it seems like something has happened! I’m looking forward to seeing what else they show now. Their offering was getting pretty dull as everything had been shown umpteen times.- 392 replies
