  1. lol, Fullcontretemps!! Yes, I remember doing this at the audition- I think the majority of the auditionees found it relatively easy, although there were one or two who struggled...
  2. Well they rehearse at my local dance school which is in Leicester- that'd probably be where they're based but not sure if the Associates classes will be there.
  3. Really naive question (sorry) but what is a medical report and why would one be needed as application forms usually have on them a 'State any medical concerns' etc section?
  4. aww, your poor DD, Tulip!! that must've been horrible
  5. Wow, Sugarplum64!!! amazing; congrats to your dd for her determination! I'm not auditioning this year, having had 'no' letters for the past 2 years...
  6. Just wanted to say happy new year to everyone on Ballet.co, wishing you all the best for an awesome ballet year!! :-D
  7. Thankyou so much, that's really helpful!
  8. Thanks for the advice! Yes, I think it is the food that my mum was worried about, as I am quite fussy- I have always been very 'healthy', so don't eat burgers, chips etc!! Are the students allowed to bring 'nibbles' from home, to keep in the dorm? (Just thinking I could perhaps take some cereal bars or fruit for between meals, lol!)
  9. Hi everyone! I brought a pair of Mindens from Dancia, London, a couple of months ago. Due to the cost of them, I'd decided to only wear them for auditions/shows. I put them on to see where to sew the ribbons. When rising to pointe, especially en demi pointe, the shoes seem very tight around the back of my foot (near the Achilles tendon). Will the shoes stretch as I break them in, or would it be best to take them back to Dancia, and see if I can exchange them for a larger size? (never worn them so they are pristine, with the price tag still attatched and no ribbons/elastics sewn.) Thanks!
  10. Happy birthday, and thankyou so much to all of the moderators for making Ballet.co a safe, secure place for me to ask all my crazy ballet-questions!!! x
  11. Merry Christmas to everyone, and thankyou all so much for your advice over the past year!! Thanks especially to the wonderful Moderators of the forum, without whom there would be no Ballet.co!! (and i'd be a lot more confused about everything ballet/auditions related!!!!) x
  12. ooh! When do you have to be 16 by?? (1st September 2013?) And is the workshop basically like an audition? Is it ballet? (Sorry for all the questions, hehe!!) Thanks
  13. Same!! Im very flexible too, but no Yr9 MA place or Yr10 SA place for me!! Interestingly, my friend (who has, in my opinion a very good physique- long legs, short torso/back etc) who could not get her left or box splits, got SWL for yr9 MA!!
  14. Anyone been watching X Factor?? Personally I think Chris Maloney should win, he's really good (Do think Ella Henderson should've got through to the final though!!) Who would you like to win??
  15. Sorry I couldnt answer your question, Millie3, just thought this would be the best thread to ask my question on!
  16. I will be auditioning for 2014 entry but am slightly concerned about the family income thing. My parents are divorced, so my mum (who is on quite a low wage anyway) lives with my stepdad. My mum wouldnt want my stepdad to have to contribute towards hefty ballet school fees; would the DADA take this into account and only consider my mum's income, even though the total household income is different??
  17. Thanks everyone!! So is it basically first-come-first-served with the allocation of places? What are the classes like? Also, although Ive done a bit of modern, I've never really done any tap: will that matter? Sorry for all the questions, just wanted to know before I apply!! :-)
  18. Hi all! I'm thinking of applying for the Tring easter ballet course, but have a few questions. Firstly, about the online payment thing- once my dad has paid, does that automatically mean I definitely get a place? What are the dormitories at Tring like? How many girls are in one dorm? And is the food good?? Thanks! Sophie
  19. Yes, some of the GCSE predictions do seem strange- my Year 9 teacher told me that I would fairly easily get an A* in English (I don't think any of my essays for him ever catastrophically failed, unlike my latest one....), however when I started at a new school for year 10, I was informed that my target grade is a B! When I enquired, I was told that the target grades for GCSE's are calculated on the basis of the Year 6 SAT's scores- errr, they were 3 years ago?!
  20. I know!! She didn't seem to mind too much that I only handed in half of it in today- just got to do the rest of it now...
  21. When you miss a couple of English lessons at school through illness, and have a GCSE exam next week. I wrote the relevant essay, just to find that it was totally wrong, and was told, by a very miffed teacher, who claimed I hadn't followed the plan we had been given at all, (whoopsie...) so could I possibly re-write the entire 8-page essay, and hand it in tomorrow?? Oh no. Didn't think 'But, Miss! I am busy tonight! I have ballet!' would go down very well, so time to start writing, methinks.
  22. ahh awesome, i wish i could go to Elmhurst!! Nice to recognise one of the 6th form dancers at the school, they're all so talented
  23. Wow, that's my inspiration for the weekend!!! I know it must be so hard on the dancers who graduate and cant get work, but just seeing the girls at White Lodge makes me sooo determined to go to vocational school!!! So i'll never get in to White Lodge, but can't wait to start 6th form auditions, to have that tiny chance of going to ballet school.....
  24. My friend got SWL for last year of MA's, she was grade 5 at the time. The audition is the same for MA, White Lodge and definitely 1st, if not 2nd, year SA's, and applicants for these courses may all be in the same audition class. Can pm you if you would like more info about what is actually required in the audition class :-)
