  1. I think the tickets are a bit expensive or is it me.
  2. Well I knew nothing of Woolf before watching this and, whilst FLOSS is right to say the choreography should carry the story, by reading the story first it would give names to the characters and how they related to each other. I also agree with DUCK regarding talking to your neighbours, I spoke to mine for the first time ever as they new Woolf very well and helped to fill in the blanks for me, many thanks to them. Was hoping to grab another ticket for the matinee but tickets are very scarce so will be unlucky.
  3. Are you sure, the casting on the web site does not show Stix-Brunell dancing tonight but she was in the first act when I saw it?
  4. Great pictures zxDaveM - what on earth were they wearing on their heads in the third act. Looks like a cage of some sort, we were sat in the stalls circle so a bit far back. What a great night.
  5. I must be the first back. Having been very unsure what I would be able to make of this I have to say that it was a wonderful night. It will not appeal to everyone but for me, on a non technical level, the experience was overwhelming, Wayne is not the easiest choreographer to like but he is able to show emotion. Add to this a fantastic score, the mix of technical and orchestral was just beautiful. the lighting, costumes, use of film as a backdrop, laser beams flashing. Fantastic. I have never read any Woolf and I have to thank the couple sitting next to me who explained the context of each of the three acts. Anyone who is going do a bit of homework and it will mean much more. Soooooo pleased I went. All the dancers were fabulous so I won't pick out anyone in particular but a lovely mix of principal and lower ranks dancing their socks off. The cheers rang out and well deserved. Its different - but give it a go.
  6. I have to say it was a really wonderful night. The foyer before the show started was thronged with children really sounding excited with what lay ahead. Our seat was in the first circle and in front of me was Carlos next to the DG of the BBC, I also recognised Ed Watson as well as any number of other faces whose names I am not sure of. I loved the hip-hop guys who were so down to earth and thrilled to be there but, my favourite, was the Asian girl she was stupendous ( not that I know anything about Asian dance ) but her performance was terrific. The audience cheered all the dancers, which was lovely. And, of course, Carlos had to steal the show by appearing not to know who the winner was, but I think he did not understand what Zoe said. so confusion reigned. The dance I had never seen, hip hop and asian, were really interesting and I hope the BBC continue with this show. We hear all the time about the young people in this great country or ours in a bad way, this shows there is another side to the coin; one we should promote. Well done.
  7. Rightly or wrongly, Natalia is big box office and sells tickets and DVD's. I would love there to be more Alina performances on record ( Mayerling springs to mind ) but economics rule. Myself, I don't mind seeing the same ballet with different leads as there are differences to be found and I enjoy watching them all.
  8. Francesca is also dancing Nov 5 th. I think.
  9. Principal casting for the Autumn season now on the web site. Much discussion will be forthcoming I am sure.
  10. I guess announcing this before the casting is announced for the Autumn period also staves off the questions on where is Melissa as her name would not be their.
  11. How odd, I follow the royal ballet and the tweet did not reach me.
  12. Does anyone know when the casting will be announced, can't find any mention on ROH web site?
  13. Looks like the fire sale has started. See special ticket offers on the Ticket Exchange thread.
  14. My first Fille last night and what a treat. Putting the dancing to one side for a moment, it was lovely to see Carlos' little girl come on stage during the curtain calls, his face was an absolute picture, and so was Nela's, she looked really pleased for him. Huge flower throw accompanied the cheers for all the cast, but Carlos was the main receptor, in a very emotional night. As for the dancing, Nela was superb and her and Carlos' pdd's were very beautiful. James Hay was an excellent Alain and did not overplay the simpleton card, Alastair as Simone was a joy with just the right amount of grand dame. Plus of course the hens and rooster not forgetting the pony who tapped his hoof as appropriate. The clog dance was really well done although Olivia did tweet she had put her clogs on the wrong feet. Very special night,
  15. Looking at the tickets still unsold for most nights it appears they are still over-priced. The management will have to do a fire sale or the theatre will be 3 parts empty which could be very embarrassing for Macgregor. I have bought for the first night but am feeling a bit of trepidation over what I might have to sit through.
  16. "On the plus side, if you are struggling to see, you can always complain to the House manager - if there are seats available (and I know this is rare now), they have a list of seats that are empty and they will move you. Well that was the case last time I complained years ago. If your dignity permits it, you could also ask for an inflatable cushion" I have seen those but thought they were for children. To be honest, forget dignity, if I have paid £100+ for a seat and couldn't see then I will hire two...... oh? what about the person behind me???
  17. "Row H on the sides behind the stairs is the best place. They do go quite quickly during advanced booking though." Yes, I agree, with the above. But I have been a Friend+ for a while now and never been able to get one, they have always gone before we can book.
  18. Like you aileen I have paid top dollar and bought what I thought was a good seat in the stalls and been very disappointed. One in particular comes to mind when I was on row B ( second from front ) for Alice only to have someone who must have been seven feet tall sit in front of me and I couldn't see a thing without leaning from one side to the other depending on where the action was. Now I try and get front row in the stalls circle, bit further away but clear view. I think you are right the rake in the first few rows is not as good as farther back.
  19. I agree, and that 16 year old, Connor, I think, there is some talent their as well. I thought the young lady Diane Patience was lovely as well, lot to work on their.
  20. Are these definately standing tickets as the email just said "Stalls Circle tickets"
