  1. My copy has just arrived from Europadisc - pre-ordered last week.
  2. Dutch National Ballet are streaming their new Raymonda from 6-8 May, price €12.50 (which from the clips looks like it may be a bargain). More info: https://www.operaballet.nl/en/dutch-national-ballet/2021-2022/raymonda-stream
  3. The Mariinsky are now streaming Raymonda with Tereshkina and Parish on their YouTube channel - not sure how long it will be there for but they tend to stay up for at least a couple of days:
  4. Thanks for sharing this Naomi - I thought it was fabulous.
  5. There's a book which accompanies the exhibition, which I highly recommend: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Ballerina-Fashions-Modern-Patricia-Mears/dp/0865653739 (other book retailers are available)
  6. This week's ballet is Let's Begin at the End, choreographed by Dwight Rhoden with music by Bach, Philip Glass and Michael Nyman. This was a new one on me but I really enjoyed it. The Unbound festival in 2018 must have been incredible!
  7. Sleeping Beauty is up now, for a week I believe: https://www.operaballet.nl/online/ballet/streaming It's the fantastic Peter Wright production with designs by Philip Prowse.
  8. I actually prefer the 'one camera' approach - I find the Onegin blu-ray almost unwatchable due to the frequency of the cuts/close ups. I think the RB recordings are generally fine though.
  9. You don't - it's also on YouTube (went up about 15 minutes ago) but presumably it will disappear quite quickly:
  10. Not sure if it's been mentioned elsewhere but San Francisco Ballet are currently uploading a video each week - this week it's Anima Animus choreographed by David Dawson with music by Ezio Bosso - well worth watching, I think it's absolutely sublime (for me it was the highlight of their visit to London last year). https://www.sfballet.org/sf-ballet-home/ The ballet changes on Fridays (overnight UK time). The filming is superb (I think because the recordings are for the archives) - the camera only zooms in and out depending on how many dancers are on stage and the shot is always full length - some other directors could take note!
  11. I'm really pleased that the Bernstein Celebration has been issued (especially as I didn't catch it at the ROH). I hope it sells well enough for them to continue releasing less well known works. I can't think of any other company releasing triple bills like this - not with any sort of regularity anyway (except the gem that was NYCB in Paris).
  12. Thanks for the heads up - my preorder went in almost immediately!
  13. Has anyone heard anything else on this? I lost my recording of the TV broadcast when we switched from Sky to BT and I'm constantly kicking myself for not finding some way to keep it!
  14. Not a DVD or a Blu-ray, but I've just noticed that the Wendy Whelan documentary 'Restless Creature' is available on Netflix (at least in the UK)! Official website for the film is here. As mentioned previously there's quite a bit of ballet available on Amazon Prime as well - the POB Nureyev Swan Lake with Letestu/Martinez and Raymonda with Gillot/Martinez, RB Sleeping Beauty with Cojocaru/Bonelli and the Mariinsky Jewels, to name a few. Also been meaning to say that the NYCB in Paris Blu-ray that came out earlier in the year is sublime - Sarah Mearns' is wonderful in Walpurgisnacht Ballet but for me the star of the show is Tiler Peck in the first movement of Symphony in C - I've watched it dozens of times! I really hope this disc sold well and NYCB are planning more releases in future.
  15. I am sad to report that the reviews pretty much sum it up (and far more eloquently than I can). There are occasional flashes of brilliance (particularly from Osipova) which only illustrate what a night it could have been. I might add some more thoughts later (I am meant to be working at the moment...!)
  16. Release dates have been pushed back for quite a few of these over the past couple of days - Rain, Ninth Symphony, the Berlin Nutcracker and the Bolshoi Swan Lake now all showing as 13th Nov. The Merry Widow and the RB Fille both came out today.
  17. It seems we're being spoilt on 30th October! - a few new ones up for this date: Rain, Paris Opera Ballet, choreography Anne Theresa De Keersmaeker, music by Steve Reich: DVD http://www.amazon.co.uk/Steve-Reich-Music-Musicians-Ballet/dp/B015HNXT66/ref=sr_1_15?s=dvd&ie=UTF8&qid=1444508528&sr=1-15 Blu-ray http://www.amazon.co.uk/Steve-Reich-Musicians-Ballet-Blu-ray/dp/B015HNXSIA/ref=sr_1_14?s=dvd&ie=UTF8&qid=1444508528&sr=1-14 The Nutcracker, Staatsballet Berlin, Iana Salenko/Marian Walter: DVD http://www.amazon.co.uk/Nutcracker-Staatsballet-Berlin-DVD/dp/B015HNXSOO/ref=sr_1_7?s=dvd&ie=UTF8&qid=1444508528&sr=1-7 Blu-ray http://www.amazon.co.uk/Nutcracker-Staatsballet-Berlin-Blu-ray/dp/B015HNXT7K/ref=sr_1_13?s=dvd&ie=UTF8&qid=1444508528&sr=1-13 Swan Lake, Bolshoi Ballet, Svetlana Zakharova/Denis Rodkin/Artemy Belyakov: DVD http://www.amazon.co.uk/Swan-Lake-Bolshoi-Ballet-DVD/dp/B015HNXTVG/ref=sr_1_8?s=dvd&ie=UTF8&qid=1444508528&sr=1-8 Blu-ray http://www.amazon.co.uk/Swan-Lake-Bolshoi-Ballet-Blu-ray/dp/B015HNXT0C/ref=sr_1_5?s=dvd&ie=UTF8&qid=1444508528&sr=1-5 Also recently released - a compilation of 1959-1962 American Ballet Theatre Bell Telephone Hour performances, excerpts from Billy the Kid, Le Corsaire, Les Patineurs and more: DVD http://www.amazon.co.uk/American-Ballet-Theatre-Patineurs-Corsaire/dp/B012C88MNO/ref=sr_1_17?s=dvd&ie=UTF8&qid=1444508528&sr=1-17
  18. And it's now up for pre-order on Amazon too (they're saying 30th Oct!) Blu-ray: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Ashton-Natalia-Christopher-Saunders-Orchestra/dp/B015ONJ55I/ref=sr_1_7?s=dvd&ie=UTF8&qid=1443121867&sr=1-7 DVD: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Ashton-Natalia-Christopher-Saunders-Orchestra/dp/B015ONJ58A/ref=sr_1_8?s=dvd&ie=UTF8&qid=1443122312&sr=1-8 My copy of Napoli has been despatched so I'll try to add some thoughts once I've watched it!
  19. The release date for Caravaggio, The Merry Widow and The Ninth Syphony has now changed to 30th October apparently. Also I noticed this news article on the ROH site - Fille with Osipova and McRae is due for release at some point, date tbc: http://www.roh.org.uk/news/la-fille-mal-gardee-starring-natalia-osipova-and-steven-mcrae-to-be-released-on-dvd-and-blu-ray
  20. Thanks Alison - guess I am an old newbie! I'll do my best to keep this thread up to date - I usually check about once a week for new pre-orders, although there aren't usually this many being released in the space of a week!
  21. I keep a close eye on DVD/Blu ray releases and I keep meaning to share them here. Amazon UK (other sites are available) have a number of upcoming DVD/Blu-ray releases available for pre-order: The Merry Widow, National Ballet of Canada, Karen Kain/John Meehan/Raymond Smith/Yoko Ichino. This was previously available on VHS but think it's the first time it's been released on disc. DVD Blu-ray Caravaggio Special Edition, Staatsballet Berlin, Vladimir Malakhov/Polina Semionova. Looks like a re-issue of the 2009 release, with the addition of an audio CD. DVD Blu-ray Napoli, Royal Danish Ballet, Alexandra Lo Sardo/Alban Lendorf/Benjamen Buza. A new staging by Nikolaj Hübbe and Sorella Englund. DVD Blu-ray Cinderella, Mariinsky Ballet, Diana Vishneva/Vladimir Shklyarov. This is the Ratmansky version, interestingly it looks like this is only going to be released as a DVD/Blu-ray combi pack. DVD + Blu-ray All due for release on 25th September except Cinderella which is 2nd October.
