Dancemum67
Hello This is my first post but I've been lurking for a while. My DD is currently in year 10 and has danced to various degrees since she was 4 years old. She's been very happy at her current dance school but has aspirations to become a dance teacher when she's older and isn't sure whether she is being pushed or challenged enough to make it a career. I've been looking at other dance schools with her in the Merseyside/Lancashire area and I know that Elliott Clarke always had a really good reputation, however I don't know anyone who has studied there so was hoping there may be someone on the forum who has had experience of Elliott Clarke and can share their thoughts? Thanks in advance D x

Tulip
I know Elliott Clarke as a recreational dance school has a very good reputation, I've also hear the principle is very dedicated. I don't know anything about senior training though but pictures might?

She would be going there as a recreational student at first as she doesn't sit her GCSEs until 2016, after that she'll need to decide which path to take whether that be A levels or vocational college. LinMM
I'm glad to hear its still going then! Sorry this won't be currently helpful but after giving up,ballet at 15 later on when I was living in Liverpool for three years I restarted my ballet at this school and can thank them for really reviving my passion again!! But this was a very long time ago now so obviously different people running the school etc but am glad it's survived all these years. At the time I was there I don't think it particularly specialised in ballet if my memory serves me correctly but was more general but as a 20 something at the time was grateful I could do ballet with them even if with some slightly younger students.
Tulip
If you can get to Chester, The Hammond vocational school have classes in the evenings for non vocational students. Elliott Clarke is supposed to be excellent though. You have a good choice being near Liverpool. Isn't Liverpool theatre school not sure of the name supposed to be good, that's based in aighbut.

DD only restarted ballet last year after quite a long break and some less than satisfactory experiences at other dance schools, so she's a bit behind her peers in terms of grade exams which is a bit of a worry. She also does other dance styles as well as ballet. With this in mind she really wants to challenge herself to see just what she is capable of achieving and both me and DH want to support her in that. Tulip
Good luck to your daughter, but don't worry about ballet grades, just get good old technique right.

drdance
You have a lot of very good training around you - Nazene Danielle's school at first looks very commercial but once you scratch the surface the training looks excellent.

Dancemum67
Thanks to everyone for the lovely welcome. I haven't heard of either Kate Simmons or Nazene Danielle's schools but will have a Google. Added: I didn't realise Nazene Danielle was Dance Dynamix! One of DD's school friends goes there (she was also in the Jennifer Ellison programme but the less said about that the better!)

primrose
Kate Simmons has a vocational school attached to it. RBS associates use the studios there. Seem to be very good for ballet.
Balletmumfor2
Hi Primrose. Are you sure RBS associates still use Kate Simmons. My dd's have been associates for 11 years and did associate classes at Centre Pointe in Denton, Manchester. We were under the impression that the only other centre in the North was at Newcastle and that is only in the last couple of years.
primrose
I am not sure. I think I may have got mixed up with centre pointe.
sarahw
Katie Simmons is used for a scheme called Northern Associates which is different to RBS Associates. I
primrose
I have never had anything to do with centre pointe or Kate Simmons just heard good things about both schools.
drdance
Kate Simmons is very good for ballet - I think predominantly Cecchetti method though?
Tulip
If Elliott Clarke is closer to you, then you won't get much better, coupled with some classes from Hammond then you are lucky. Don't forget our famous Lipa research that, lots have graduates have done very well from there.

Don't forget our famous Lipa research that, lots have graduates have done very well from there. It's easy to think that London is the only place that has high quality dance provision and you forget what you have on your own doorstep DD did the summer school at LIPA last year and absolutely hated it which was a real shame as she'd been so excited about going. Tulip
Ah but I get a feeling the summer school is nothing like the real school. My daughter did a musical theatre SS with them and it was rather ropey compared to what we are used to.
Tulip
For dance training I personaly do believe that if you want to become a professional dancer then you do need to be in London that's just my oppinion.
Nutcracker-x
I'll pm you in the morning with details of a good school in merseyside that has got a good reputation x
invisiblecircus
Kate Simmons is very good for ballet - I think predominantly Cecchetti method though? It is, but that's OK isn't it? For dance training I personaly do believe that if you want to become a professional dancer then you do need to be in London that's just my oppinion. I disagree, I think there are good training options elsewhere in the UK (and outside of it!) and it also depends on what kind of dance you want to focus on. Once you've graduated though, being in London is advantageous as there are many places you can take class and network and you're close to where a lot of the auditions are taking place.
Tulip
Yes you are right as ballet west and Hammond have excellent reputations. I clearly wasn't thinking because there's Northen and Leeds also, silly me.
2dancersmum
Elmhurst might disagree with you there too Tulip! though I think you are possibly right about London for after graduation - though there are quite a few classes in Manchester too. Even during graduate year London can be an advantage for auditions.
Tulip
Ha I forgot Elmhurst, Kate Simmons etc too and no doubt a few others.
Picturesinthefirelight
I have no personal experience of Elliot Clarke other than I have hired a couple of dancers who trained there as choreographers for a musical theatre Summer school. They were good. I do remember a TV programme about three brothers?? One went to Elmhurst, one went into Matilda? I've always heard the school has a good reputation. I have a friend who did her ISTD teaching qualifications at Kate Simmons & I have heard lots of people say how good that school is. I don't think that Hammond offer recreational classes other than HPA on a Saturday morning which is mostly drama/MT based plus their monthly Hammond Associates. I don't think they have the studio space available in the week! There is a teacher from Hammond who I believe runs her own dance school along with someone else. It's called North West Dance Studios & they run classes at various venues around Cheshire.
