Janice Posted November 25, 2014 Share Posted November 25, 2014 A week and a half ago Dd sprained her ankle, she was sent for an X-ray which showed damaged cartilage. The gp said he was urgently referring her to an orthopaedic doctor and not to do anything until then. She did not ask any questions I think she was in shock. The appointment has come through for mid December, as you can imagine she is missing dance terribly. She has looked it up on the net and it does not sound good, she is scared she won't be able to dance again. Dd is going back to the gp tomorrow to ask to be referred to the dance clinic at Bath hospital as I feel this would be the best place for treatment. Has anybody had any experience with this? LinMM Posted November 25, 2014 Share Posted November 25, 2014 I'm sure Ive read elsewhere on the forum that being referred to a specialist Dance Clinic is the best thing......especially for someone hoping for a career in Dance.......I believe there were even some particular recommendations of clinics and the one in Bath also rings a bell. 2dancersmum Posted November 26, 2014 Share Posted November 26, 2014 I think the referral to Bath is a good idea. Your poor DD -give her hugs from my DDs and myself. Looking it up on the net is probably not the best thing she could have done - I am sure what she read will have scared her half to death. I imagine that with the correct treatment she will be able to dance again but I doubt there is any quick fix so she will need a lot of patience. I hope you get answers soon as to exactly what the damage is and how it can be treated as the not knowing stage must be so hard on both of you. These injuries vary so much from person to another, so you can't really compare them, the cartilage damage in itself might not be much of a problem, and at worse in a lot of cases the ankle might just need a flush to remove any bits left floating around. You can frighten yourselves crazy by doing a self diagnosis on line, so listen to the experts who are dealing with your DD, and with a bit of luck it might not be too serious at all, fingers crossed. 1 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

2dancersmum Posted November 28, 2014 Share Posted November 28, 2014 Does this referral to Bath for 21st Jan mean that the appointment in mid December locally is no longer available to her? To me it sounds like getting a full diagnosis and treatment plan is step one. I've no experience of the Jerwood centre but I wonder if it would be any faster or if you would just be going over the same grounds as in her other appointments and at much greater cost - money that might be better spent on helping her recovery after initial treatment - physio for example if required. taximom Posted November 28, 2014 Share Posted November 28, 2014 My DD had intensive support a few years ago from the Jerwodd Centre and it worked brilliantly. they are wonderful there. Janice Posted January 26, 2015 Author Share Posted January 26, 2015 (edited) Hi thanks for thinking of DD. She is back dancing with very little pain, she had some bruising to the bone. She is also having an mri tomorrow to look at the cartilage damage, the staff at the Bath NHS dance clinic are fantastic and I highly recommend them they were fantastic with DD.
