FullContretemps
I'm pretty sure I walked when I went a few years ago. Don't think it was too far at all. How old is DD? Going to the upcoming exam session? I will be heading over on the 4th
dancemad
It's about a 15min walk from Piccadilly and 5mins from Oxford Road

Its her Life
Yes, we walked from Piccadilly stn when we attended an audition couple of years back & would agree about 10 mins.
2dancersmum
My DD is headed there too - though we had expected it to be Liverpool. Very early start for her that morning.
meadowblythe
If you get the train to Oxford Road - you can change at Manchester Piccadilly if necessary - come out of the station walk down to the main road and turn right. Â No major roads to cross. Â 5 minutes max. Â Any parents waiting - there is a fabulous little coffee shop just by the station (before you get to the main road) or indulge yourself at the Manchester Picture House either for a drink, food or a film. Â Or within 15 minutes walk - just carry on past Northern ballet school - you get to the museum of manchester university. Â If you have younger children with you this is fabulous, especially the live animals at the top of the museum and the dinosaur skeleton at the bottom! Jan McNulty
Oh I would second the recommendation for the little cafe at the bottom of the Oxford Rd station entrance road. Unless it's changed its name it's called Java.
Legseleven
If your rail ticket is to any Manchester central zone station, I think you can get a train across to Oxford Road station from Piccadilly or Victoria for free (do ask to make sure I'm right!) Then it is a very easy short walk to NBS as meadowblythe says.
Jan McNulty
As far as I am aware trains from Victoria do not go to Oxford Road but trains from Piccadilly do. Â For anyone using Transpenine routes you need to be aware that there is a new route between Liverpool and Leeds that goes via Victoria not Piccadilly.

lovetoballetdance
Hello I am a student at NBS and when I go home on the train, I walk to oxford road station which takes 5 minutes then catch a train for 5 minutes into Piccadilly station. Your train ticket from Piccadilly covers the cost of the train from Oxford road if you have any questions just message me

Legseleven
If the trains no longer go from Victoria to Oxford Road (some routes did although I'm not sure of the current position),you can also get a tram (Metrolink) to Deansgate station - which may be called Cornbrook on the tram line? - then get a train from Deansgate to Oxford Road. Â Given that routes seem to change pretty often - and in case there are any engineering works etc on any line - I would always speak to the staff at whichever station you arrive at to find out the best and quickest route to Oxford Road and NBS. taxi4ballet
We're travelling up the day before, and staying just up the road from the Dancehouse - any recommendations for somewhere to eat nearby that evening please?
aballetlife
I know there's a nandos around the corner from the dance house but other than that I can't help sorry!
Jan McNulty
There is a place called Kitchenette opposite the Palace Theatre (which may be around a 10 minute walk away).  Here's a link to the menu:  http://www.mudcrabindustries.co.uk/files/menus/020914_1650_A3%20K-LD.pdf  I loved the duck and sweet potato hash (had it twice in a week!) and the ice cream cones are to die for!  If you walk a few minutes further up from the Palace Theatre I think there are a number of other restaurants.  If you have time to kill during the day there's a super cafe called Java on the slip road up to Oxford Rd Station:  http://www.javabarespresso.com/index.php?main_page=page&id=8 I think it's open till around 9pm too.  There is also the Corner House (or whatever it is called these days) and a Starbucks seems to have opened adjacent to the theatre.

Tulip
My geography is terrible, it's in Manchester town centre, very well sign posted though. Lots of yummy food.
Its her Life
We also stayed the night before and ate in a really lovely Italian restaurant up the road from the dance school, near the main crossroads & near the Premier Inn. If I can remember its name. I'll repost.
Tulip
It's by the town hall so you may need to get a bus, but so with it. I loved their baileys hot chocolate mmm.
meadowblythe
From Oxford Street station instead of turning right turn left - so head away from Northern Ballet. Â Go up to the library, large circular building. Â Go into the library. Â When you have finished marvelling, Â keep heading away from Northern Ballet and its in a big square there. Â There is a separate market just beyond Harvey Nicks, on your way to Victoria station. Â I miss Manchester now my DD is not at JRNCM any more, but Wells does have a reindeer parade! FullContretemps
You're all making me wish I was staying! Only 1 day off work allowed though Anybody know what the floor is like there now? I seem to remember last time I was there (about 4 1/2 years ago ) it was pretty sticky. Just wondering what those turns are going to be like... 2dancersmum
DD had her adv 2 there today and thought the floor was sticky but not overly so. She said turns were fine but no danger of overturning or slipping at the end.
