I see "Every Body Ballet" have run repertoire workshops, does anyone know anything about this I've emailed Isabel and Karis but both are away. I did a few classes with them at ROH over a year ago, then they had only just added an Intermediate class to the ballet they were teaching.

Thanks Julie.

Rejane Garcia is a lovely person and teacher and she wonderfully somehow enables people to get out of her workshops the best they can at their own level.

It looks like such a lovely workshop. I wish Rejane would start repertoire workshops just like that for teenagers! :-)

Great clip, it's fascinating to see how differently the exact same steps are executed: to my non-dancing eye, some beautifully done and a few with the gait of an earnest beginner. It must take a special kind of teacher to make it work so well.

Thanks JulieW for sharing this clip!

I remember the filming on the day but never realised that it would arrive on the internet it is a beautiful piece of camera work capturing the essence of the day. I attended this workshop last year and it's lovely to see a recording of what was a wonderful experience - and also to see where I need to improve, if only all classes were filmed! I would love to attend the Don Quixote workshop on 24th May I am somehow going to have to get myself down to London and ballet fit again in time to do this!

After I attended all the ENB choreography workshop at Milton Keynes in 2013 which was truly amazing I missed both LAB and another City Academy workshop held in the studios of the Royal Opera House so returning with a Don Quixote workshop and some of the ENB Spring taster sessions would be a great way to rejuvenate myself after such a long period away from the barre full-time due to injury.

I look forward to seeing any ballet co forumers who are able to attend also it's always nice to catch up! Michelle_Richer I believe we met at the Birmingham Royal Ballet Aladdin workshop in April last year will you be able to attend the Don Quixote workshop?

Yes I will be there, I am surprised you needed to ask. I've just returned today from doing a little bit of "Mid Summer night dream" at Theatre Royal Norwich this morning with Northern Ballet, then it was LAB rehearsal tonight. RAD are doing "Swan Lake" this Sunday I will be there too. Did you know LAB are doing a 6 day Summer Intensive on "Don Quixote" at the Royal Ballet School in Floral Street (14 - 19July) and "Swan Lake" at the same venue (11 - 16 August), I have already booked both of those too.

LAB are also doing a 3 day Autumn Intensive (31Oct - 2Nov), but it hasn't been defined yet, I've ask Tom to consider Giselle but its still in the melting pot.

Are you coming to see our LAB Gala on the 5th July at the Bloomsbury Theatre http://www.thebloomsbury.com/event/run/077C

S and P I'm not sure but I think Rejane may well do other workshops connected to the City Academy for younger people. I'm sure she does a contemporary class for a younger group but I'll try to find out!

Oh thank you Lin, that's so kind. It's Ballet Repertoire workshops I'm always on the lookout for. Dd always loves the look of the ENB workshops but the London ones are always on a Saturday and therefore clash with Associates which she won't miss. :-)

I attended the RAD Swan Lake repertoire workshop today (18/5/14) with 13 other dancers, unusually there was only one dancer I knew and she attends the same classes at ENB that I do.

Unfortunately there was a little mix up with the ending time, with two different times stated. We ended on the earlier one so there was only just time to complete two of three scenes that was to have been taught. We danced the Entrance of the Swans and the Cygnet dance, both from Act 2, we were to include Dance of the Princesses from Act 3 but that will have to wait for the next one. We danced Entrance of the Swans first, unfortunately we had one girl retire with ankle problems but she remained and watched with an ice pack on her ankle.

I must confess I was little apprehensive about the ankle cracking Cygnet Dance, but everything went OK. As we left early I even had quite a walk round Peterborough Queensgate shopping centre on my way home, it was only when I sat down at home I could feel a little stiffness coming on, only tomorrow will tell.

Thanks Ellie

I would love to attend it, however it’s the day after our two LAB Gala performances at the Bloomsbury Theatre and in any case I’m on dress rehearsal that day for a whole weeks performances at The Angles Theatre.

Its also worth mentioning the LAB (London Amateur Ballet) are holding their second 6 day Summer Intensive on “Swan Lake” at the Royal Ballet School, Covent Garden (11th – 16 August).

PS I've just emailed Kevin at BalletWorkshops to get on their mailing list as I see there are others coming up but no dates yet.

It doesn't say Lin, the website is quite basic. I will see what come back in the form of an email otherwise I will phone Kevin.

Incidentally when I caught the 170 Bus back to Victory yesterday, who should get on the bus with me but the RAD teacher who taught us both rep from Cinderella at the last workshop and of course she recognised me.

How's things going with LAB now your temporarily grounded.

I'm quite stiff this morning after the Cygnet dance yesterday but I think it will pass, I have a practice session at the hall this morning so I need to loosen up for that. Last week was an awesome week for me with three early starts 4am, 4.30am and 5am, this week is a little lighter but I have Don Q at the weekend with City.

LinMM yes the workshop is for adults with a good understanding of ballet technique. I have no personal involvement in the workshop, Kevin is a friend. He is away at the moment Michelle, but I'm sure he'll reply to your email as soon as he returns. x

Thanks Ellie will keep an eye on them then.......for when I can actually get back to workshops probably next Autumn now.

LAB are being very generous about my injury!!

Last week I turned up and explained the situation to Tom and he said he's happy to delay making a final decision about whether I take part for another few weeks!!

I'm only in the finale of Nutcracker and Les Sylphides anyway. He would rather at this stage that I looked after the injury and be totally fit for September.........when can be in on proceedings from the beginning ........which made me feel very accepted and also a bit of a relief that there was no pressure for now!!

I sat and watched and made some notes on a couple of enchainements from the class lesson.......I love the adagio section we have been learning and then some choreography from Les Sylphides and walked through my bits when required.

I also saw the Spanish dance for the first time and was itching to get up and join in!!! I have noted the choreography by following one group. Perhaps they will do again at some point in the future!

Still slow progress with the foot however even though have done no dancing at all now for over three weeks :(

Hi Lin

Are you continuing to go to LAB and observe until you get the all clear.

I have some minor knee pain since possibly the grand jete's on Tuesday but equally it could have been the weight of my case up and down stairs at various stations. Ankles not too bad after the Cygnet ordeal on Sunday. However I have two hour hall time booked for sorting out the Kitri sequence before Don Q on Saturday.

It also looks highly likely I will be joining City Academy's 12 week performance course ending with two performances on Sadler's Wells stage. I'm finding this one difficult to say no to.

Yes went again tonight.....mainly making notes again.

Was talking to another lady who did her first barre tonight for seven weeks because of injury. She advised me to get a dance physio if am not that happy with way things are going with foot..... but I'll give it a bit longer yet.......also I am going to see Franzisca for a session with her ......but not ballet ......on June 4th......this is the Pilates and gyro tonics .......something like that anyway .....but she is going to help with some strengthening exercises for feet/ hip/ core areas etc.

I pretended to be someone else in the snowflakes dance.......just walking it through and doing the arms etc which was fun and we were shown the leotard that Wednesday group are wearing........a red one!! And no sleeves either!! It can be worn with a bra however which is something!

Just wanted to say that all you adults are so inspirational.

Proof that you dont have to stop dancing when you leave school and that Ballet can be enjoyed forever.

You dont have to be a professional ballet dancer in order to dance! And I rather suspect some of you are having far more fun and getting far more satisfaction!

Hi Lin

This may be of interest, I think I may attend their taster on Tuesday as it seems ENB are still running, and there was me looking forward to a ballet free week:

Join us at Westfield London for an exclusive opportunity to try a BalletFit class – unique to English National Ballet – as part of a series of workshops hosted by Westfield Presents.

Tuesday 27 May

Session 1: 4pm – 4.45pm

Session 2: 5pm – 5.45pm

Westfield London, Shepherds Bush, Level 1 outside Marks & Spencer’s

Age 18 +

BalletFit is a unique ballet-inspired workout, led by specialist artists from English National Ballet, combining core Pilates exercises to increase strength and flexibility. The class is a mixture of exercise and ballet technique class, and a great way to reinvigorate yourself at the end of a stressful day!

Classes at Westfield Presents are free of charge and offered on a drop in basis only. No need to book. Suitable for all levels, no experience required. Please wear comfortable clothing suitable for movement and please bring your own mat.

For more information about Westfield Presents, go to http://uk.westfield.com/london/westfield-presents

As for the red LAB leo’s I thought they were more burgundy than red. Yes I know they are strappy, I been wearing white at LAB recently but admittedly the straps are a bit wider but its summer. As for bra’s etc providing they are unobtrusive flesh colour there will be no problem, however it has been mentioned that the so-called transparent straps do reflect with stage lighting and really should not be warn.

We also got a demonstration of the Tutu overlays that we will have to sew on (tack), before the show.

We was limited this week to the smaller studio that we use for barre work, however I think we rehearsed most of our rep at least once, some still needs cleaning. After class most of us met-up in a local pub for and end of session drink, which rounds the day off nicely before my long journey home.

Tuesday round trip alone is around 500miles mostly by rail with over 5 hours of ballet. I'm up at 4.30am on the road just after 6.30am, I don't get back home until 1am the following morning. I can have 2 or 3 days of the week approaching those sort of hours. But the extremes of Tuesdays is just until the Northern Ballets show on the 28th June as its really not sustainable in the long term, anyway I'm hoping to add in another London day after September if my body can take it.

Last Saturdays City Academy Workshop on Don Quixote was perhaps the most challenging rep workshop so far, that was certainly my feeling and that of many of the dancers that attended it, mostly from the very quick tempo of the music.

We danced three separate pieces from Act 1 which to some extent followed each other.

The Entrance of Kitri, some of which was slightly simplified more for group safety than capability,

Pas de deux: Although we had only one guy, he danced with one of the girls, whist the rest of us partnered up into girl/girl combinations as the most of the guys steps were a mirror image of the ladies steps, and where it wasn’t our teacher substituted those for something appropriate, basically it worked well.

Corps de ballet piece, lots of balance’s and use of fans, so much so that my arm ached up to a couple of days after the event.

City have two repertoire workshops coming up:

Giselle this Saturday 31st May.

Swan Lake Saturday 19 July

There is another Don Quixote planned and a Nutcracker too, but no dates released as yet.

City Academy are launching a 12 week ballet performance course commencing in September on Tuesday evenings, culminating in a performance on the main stage of Sadler Wells Theatre on 6th December. I will be attended that course.

Thanks Janet

I would have attended it even if it is for older dancers, as “Elite Syncopations” look gorgeous to dance, however after nagging my teacher to get going with our Lincoln Show, we start our first rehearsal of "Waltz of Hours" from Coppelia next Monday, so I cant miss that. Coupled with the fact I'm doing rehearsals for two other show groups, and also have to learn the Sugar Plum Fairy Variation from Nutcracker for my Next City Academy workshop in two weeks time. Only just finished 7 hours of Swan Lake this weekend, I'm sure my mind will soon explode. But thanks again for the posting it really does look very nice.
