definite pet peeve - women "putting their face on" by trowelling on make-up on the train. Get up 5-10 mins earlier and do it home!!

On a train journey to Birmingham late last year I sat next to a young woman who proceeded to extract more makeup than I own in total out of her bag and spent 45 minutes applying it.  I was amazed!  Must have cost her a fortune.

On the subject of office cleanliness I hate the fact that our office kitchen sink is full of dirty pots all the time, the draining board is full and the microwave is a health hazard.  We even have a sign up that says "your mum is not here - clean up after yourself".  Dread to think what their houses are like.

Ye Daily Rag - you know the one - warned yesterday of the biggest mistake we all make after going to the gym. Who is this "we" I wonder. It wasn't the stuffing of chocolate down necks as reward for good deeds on the treadmill. It was failing to give the body sufficient time to rest and recover from exercise.

Today's warning is about the mistakes we make when doing housework. Too obvious to list but nevertheless, a bit of a worry. Best to keep out of harm's way by avoiding both gym and housework. Just go straight to the chocolate.

Or better still, keep out of harm's way and avoid reading that particular newspaper in the first place! :D  ;)

Oh no, I couldn't do that. I need to find out what "mistake of the day" is or I won't know what to worry about. Which is a worry in itself. Possibly even a mistake too.

Raccoons in the attic.

And insane birds that spend days trying to chase their reflections away. We've spent the last three days listening to "bang, bang, bang" as this stupid American robin has been valiantly trying to make his territory safe from his reflected self in the bathroom window.

I'm sorry Balletcoforum but I am putting you in this room!!

what on earth is going on?

i had no idea or warning it seems about this recent up date and feel a little cross about it.

i was offline for a little over 24 hours and obviously this info must have been given out but even when I posted a review of a performance today I still had no idea everything was about to change .

Did others understand this update was about to happen today or is it just me?

Most weeks I usually don't have access to computer ....or rather wifi...on Tuesday's and Wednesday's so didn't get the warning.

i just think for something as important as this a little more warning would have been appreciated that a big change was about to happen etc

Believe me, the Moderators would have appreciated some warning that it was coming, too

I *have* just vaguely managed to decipher the board management commands and moved your query into a thread in the "About" section for discussing any problems/queries.  At least, I *think* I have

Oh great.  I'm afraid you'll have to go and find it yourself, because what *was* the link to that thread a few minutes ago has now turned into the link to your moved post .  Sorry.

What's the problem with people putting on their make-up in trains?  Is it the fact that they invade your space while doing it? Or you just prefer not to know that women take time to look "natural".  I have occasionally put on a quick sweep of mascara and eye liner when I am on the tube, and never given it a thought.  I only do it when I am sitting down, obviously.....

Maybe Dave is referring to "the full works"?

I think I've already covered someone cutting their toenails on the train in here, haven't I?

No !!! Really ??? A few weeks ago I was extremely impressed by the skill of a young lady on the tube who went from bare face to fully made up (and very nicely done too) in about 6 stops.

I don't remember this, but that is going too far!  I hope you told them off.

I'm mainly jealous that they can do it in a moving vehicle (as long as they don't invade my space with their paraphernalia)!

yes, its the full works - moisturiser, factor 50 foundation, contortionist expressions while trowelling on various creams and powders, and curling and flicking black stuff, then all the other colourful bits and bobs. I'm sure most people wouldn't enjoy me shaving on the train, so I do it at home in the comfort and privacy of my own bathroom. And to be honest, most women. to my eyes anyway, look better without, or just minimal face paintings

Oh - and nail varnish painting! I have to move or I'll pass out from the fumes. That is just totally selfish and self centred in an enclosed space

Flicking stuff?  Sounds as though they end up looking like this!

This reminds me of a train journey to London a few years ago. I got on at Haywards Heath. The lady in question got on at Gatwick. She set her make up counter out on the table between us and proceeded to paint her face. I have never seen a transformation like it. I was sort of observing her progress in the reflection from the window. I didn't want to make it a case of Wot you lookin at! By the time we got to Purley ( famous place, squire) she was well on her way to looking like a different person. Having started the process barefaced, she was layering it on well past what suited her. As we approached Victoria, she went into the space where the doors are or were then. There she tipped her head forward and emptied what must have been a whole can of spray into her hair. Presumably to give it the "naturally" tousled, big hair look beloved of the 1980s.

I took the view that as far as grooming is concerned, she had achieved her optimum look by the time we'd reached Clapham and she should have stopped there.

I've actually been pretty good for the past few weeks but when oilseed rape pollen, tree pollen and the very beginnings of the grass pollen season all coincide, forget it! Thanks, Lisa. x

Do you share this car Jacqueline? It's just I was wondering why he wanted you to clean the Windows!! If he uses it that is!

Or have you been apportioned the car cleaning in your weekly chores etc.( or for me should I say six monthly chore)

since ce we've both retired we do now share one car so take my turn at cleaning as above!! If it was me I'd be lazy and take to the car wash but partner not keen on this apart from the money he thinks they don't do a good enough job!!!

As long as it's about twice a year I don't mind it ......and I'm terrible if I have just cleaned it.....very fussy....could even kill a seagull and I love all birds!

We share the car tho I use it more during the week. I don't think it is really about the windows or anything in particular. It's just the way he is. I remember his mother telling me fault finding was his specialist subject from a very early age.

In common with this type of personality, he is not so keen on having his own shortcomings  pointed out.. I have learned to bite my tongue. Retirement's going to be a laugh a minute. Perhaps I will book him on a very long cruise.  Then another one.
