Hello Balletdream and welcome to the Forum. There are lots of very knowledgeable people on here, many with children who have or still are training at the Hammond. I'm sure someone will be along shortly to be able to help you out with your question.

Hi,

Thanks for your response , yes we can have 50% bursary so am trying all avenues to fund the remainder. I'm a single parent working as many hours as possible , just so her passion for dance and performing continues .

Stressed is an understatement !! X

Hello Balletdream and welcome to the Forum.

If you search on funding (and I have also added a tag to your thread) lots of information comes up that you may find of use.  I also added a Hammond tag.

Good luck to your DD and yourself.

I feel your pain, DD has also been offered the bursary for year 9 and on waiting list for MDS.  We have accepted that it is not going to happen for DD, and whilst she is upset she has moved on and is now looking forward to another year of MIDS, she will possibly try again next year.  I really hope you find a way to make it work for your DD, it would be great to hear more from you about any funding options you discover.  Good luck x

Hi,

its so sad that they get so far but then something like this happens.

My DD has moved on she is still an Elmhurst associate and also has lessons from RBS teachers, you just feel so bad for them cause you know it's there dream .

i will def keep you updated if we hear anything which may help you both , and yes I suppose now all they can do is enjoy and work hard to prepare for next time . Did she audition any were else this year ?? .

Good luck to you both who knows they may meet at next auditions x

Hi Ballet dream it sounds like your dd is receiving good training , vocational school at yr 9  isn't the only route into a Classical Upper School as many parents on here have DCs who havnt been to a lower school but with good training have secured fabulous results come 16.

Just to give you and shygirlsmum hope  my dd received her MDS offer 6 days before the start of the September term so it does happen , more often than you think ... Fingers crossed for your young dancers .

It's common to move after Y11 as courses become more specialised between ballet/mixed dance.

Some move before because they have been assessed out or because they may want more ballet or more variety. (Eg Hammond does other genres and vocal as well as ballet so if you are ballet orientated you may decide to try and get in elsewhere. )Also, some children just don't get on at a particular school and may thrive elsewhere.

It's certainly not a case of one school fits all....

20 hours ago, Balletdream said:

Is she still at Hammond or has she moved , I'm confused as to why so many of them move schools .

No she isn't Balletdream but she did the full 5 lower school years .

At 16 they tend to split up into those who want a more Classical training and those who want the more "triple threat " style of college.

edited to say I've just seen your last comment and besides assessing out ,children seem to move to schools that are classed as being  ( rightly or wrongly) more Classical .

Unfortunately she didn't , she was desperate to go to Elmhurst ,however she is still in dance training and socially  she  had a wonderful 5 years at The Hammond and has many happy memories.
