balletbean
Morning folks, Sunday Morning Project. It's show time and my daughters well loved Pointe Shoes are very black on the heel. Re-darned the toes so they look clean. Obviously unlike flats where we would just buy a new pair, this is just not practical with Pointes. How do I clean the heels? Calamine hasn't worked. Dress Rehearsal tomorrow EEK Thank you
mimi'smom
Have you tried scrubbing with a paste made of baking soda? This helped with a coffee stain on the heel of dd's brand new (eek!) pointe shoes. Didn't quite remove it fully on first go, but reckon a second shot would do the job.
ParentTaxi
I will confess to rubbing gently with an almost-dry cloth squirted with stain removing laundry spray (Vanish, Oxy, that type of stuff) then wiping off again with a very slightly damp cloth. It has been successful both on satin ballet shoes and on pointe shoes. Calamining both satins and pointe shoes for performances is normal for DD's non-vocational dance school, and i have found that stain removal followed by a liberal dose of calamine is pretty effective.
balletbean
Thank you, they seem both doable options. Nothing to lose at the moment but anything that will dull the black heels will be an improvement. Thanks again. Off to rummage my cupboards for Baking Soda
Gowiththeflo
May not be heavy duty enough, but baby wipes are surprisingly effective for a quick spruce up.
balletbean
Thank you all. The Baking soda has certainly made the black stains paler. The audience won't see, from their seats. Job done. Next job..............
drdance
I'm sure I read somewhere about dancers using bread to clean their pointe shoes!! I might've imagined it though
taxi4ballet
Shoes usually look a lot better under stage lights than they do close-up
Gowiththeflo
Drdance the bread thing is a 'thing'! Has to be white bread, i think the cheaper the better; and you squish it up into a little ball, and use it like a rubber!! Can't vouch for its use on pointe shoes, but it's an old 'housewives' trick for ckeaning marks off walls, & scuffs off paintwork etc. ☺️
