Exaggerating Festival Results on Facebook!

Recommended Posts

A little bit of dance moms drama just to perk things up a bit.

We've only done a couple of festivals so I don't know if this is a common place practice or just isolated to our local festival scene...?

Have you ever seen another dance school post their results and think....hang on...I was there and that's not right!!? Especially when the result in question must have been a bitter pill to swallow judging from the behaviour backstage prior to the section starting.

I'm sure it was just an oversight. ;-) ;-) ;-)

I have a feeling you may be referring to a festival that we attended this week where the judge incorrectly called a number 17 instead of a 7. The organiser came backstage to apologise to the child in question on behalf of the judge and to give her the medal she should have received on stage.

There was some concern that people would think this..

This is intriguing. Do you mean that the dance school actually lied about their placings? I've seen things exaggerated ie a big deal made out of someone getting first place when they were actually the only one in the section, but as far as I'm aware I've never seen a blatant lie. Come on spill the beans petalviolet (without disclosing which school/festival of course) as Im not really sure what you mean.

Alternative facts!

Have definitely seen a few exaggerated results on social media that have made you stop & think that's not right

Never seen an outright lie but the arts (including ballet) world is legendary for its ability to exaggerate and present the most ordinary things in the best possible light to make them sound amazing. Some of the claims for success or creatively-written biographies I have seen are staggering when you know the real story / facts.

Reminds me of the old theatre reviews where a critic may say something like "this production completely fails to be exciting" and then the quote above the door is "exciting!".

Just found this thread on festivals. My dd is dancing at the Tilehurst festival in March and I was wondering if anyone knows what the adjudicator Janet Palmer usually looks for. Is it predominantly technicality, musicality or artistry/ability to perform and characterise?

Well along with Brenda Last she selected finalists for the 2016 Molly Lake award and I believe is the Chair of the All England Dance Committee so you are definitely getting top expertise.

Well I like to emerge from the shadows occasionally to stun you with my ballet acumen.

Scores remain still today but SURELY on your own turf everyone who is anyone will know? Who are you impressing? Sycophants.

Oh I just raised my arm up to put glass on shelf and realised I had a small plastic empty bun net packet cellotaped to the underneath of..me.

How long has that been there and how and why?

I suspect mini PV involved.

Seriously though I've been prompted by a private message and I just want to reiterate here publicly;

I can't and won't specify the school/area/section/child/teacher/teacher's cat involved but if you are concerned about this thread relating to your school then go and check your social media profiles for accuracy and fairness and then you won't have anything to worry about.

Wow, that's pretty pathetic. I have seen some schools making a big deal about 2nd place whilst knowing that there was only 2 in the section but to actually lie is incredible.

First day of festival for us today so by lunchtime I will be up to my elbows in glitter.

Hope everyone has had or is having a great festival x

Staying with the theme of exaggeration, I wonder if anyone has noticed some dance schools exaggerating their own teaching ie dance teachers calling themselves experts, specialists, calling their classes master classes etc. Ive seen this a lot lately and  with some of the teachers I don't know what their credentials are, but I am aware of a few and whilst I'm sure they are great teachers in their own right I do find them giving them selves titles like this very strange not to mention being very economical with the truth. In any other profession you have to have specific experience and credentials to call yourself a specialist but it seems in dance that anyone can claim this. Has anyone else noticed this or am I just a mean, cynical dance Mummy?
