Sadler’s Wells welcomes a host of hit tango productions during the Spring and Summer of 2017. Across both Sadler’s Wells and its West End venue The Peacock, audiences will have the opportunity to see some of the most popular tango talent from all over the world.

 

Germán Cornejo’s Tango Fire
World-leading Argentine dance sensation Germán Cornejo’s Tango Fire returns to The Peacock to take audiences on an explosive journey through the seductive art form of tango, showcasing the rawness, sophistication and intoxicating passion of this dance. The production comes to London from 31 January - 18 February 2017.

 

International tango superstars Germán Cornejo and Gisela Galeassi are joined by a cast of extraordinary couples, including several World Tango Champions and the best dancers from Buenos Aires’ famous tango houses. Tango Fire encompasses all that defines Argentine tango: dancing which sizzles with sensuality, accompanied by the unforgettable music of the great tango masters including Piazzolla, Pugliese and Gardel. Since its formation in 2005, Tango Fire has become a worldwide phenomenon and leading tango company. With sell-out performances and a legion of fans across the globe, Tango Fire brings this dynamic genre of dance to life.

 

Sadler’s Wells Sampled
Sadler’s Wells starts the new year with the return of the dance taster festival Sadler’s Wells Sampledfeaturing world-class dance and a series of workshops and foyer activities, on 3 & 4 February 2017. Argentine tango duo Julia Hiriart Urruty and Claudio González take to the stage for the second year running, performing two show stopping dance routines. The pair were part of Sadler's Wells Production m¡longa choreographed by Sadler’s Wells Associate Artist Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui.

 

m¡longa
By celebrated contemporary dancer and choreographer Sidi Larbi Cherkaouim¡longa, a Sadler’s Wells Production, is a seductive and fascinating exploration of tango for the 21st century. The show performs at Sadler’s Wells as part of a Dance Consortium UK tour, 22 - 24 May 2017.

Inspired by the late night tango scene in intimate bars across Buenos Aires, Sadler’s Wells Associate Artist Cherkaoui draws on traditional tango influences and adds a contemporary twist in m¡longa. Created in 2013 for a cast of 17 performers - ten Argentinian tango dancers, two contemporary dancers and five musicians - Cherkaoui explores the social and choreographic vocabulary of Argentinian tango and brings his own unique choreographic style to m¡longa.

 

Tanguera
With a cast of over 30 dancers and singers, the classic tango production Tanguera returns to Sadler’s Wells and tells a story of unrequited love in early 20th century Buenos Aires. After playing to packed houses in 2010, the hit show returns to Lon
don Wednesday 19 July – Sunday 6 August 2017, as part of a European tour.

 

When Giselle, a young French woman, arrives in Argentina as one of the first waves of European immigrants, she meets Lorenzo, a port worker who falls in love with her at first sight. But as Giselle falls deeper into Buenos Aires’ seedy underworld, Lorenzo must fight to win her love.
