Obviously they are the one item that really can't be bought online but I think I've just been stung at a local dance shop. Or is it the norm for such a markup compared to online prices? X £52.00 in store but online Pro 2007 were advertised for £42.95 online. Then £42.95 for a pair of demi/exams Is this kind of mark up the norm? I don't know anyone who would pay the cheaper price to order online when even 2 pairs of the exact same size can vary. I can see why you feel as though you may have been ripped off but you're doing your best for your DD and with ballet that doesn't come cheaply. We paid 30ish for Dd s grishko demi pointes and 45 ish for her 2007 Pro Grishko pointe shoes. What with the ribbons to purchase as well, it is an expensive business. I agree that if you are happy with the fitting then it's better to think of it as paying a little extra for a service provided. When a dancer's feet have stopped growing and they need two or more pairs on the go at the same time, then yes, you could probably order duplicate pairs online - assuming the model of shoe is machine made. 3 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

A number of years ago we were after a tutu bag, having seen the price online and having to go to the city that day where this particular shop is based I decided to drop in to buy one. The price difference was around 15% and when I queried it was told they have to cover staff and building costs with the shop. Not sure who deals with online orders and packages them up as I know it is in the same location as the shop I visited! At most pointe shoe fittings my dd has had the concentrated attention of one fitter for anything up to an hour. taxi4ballet Posted October 23, 2016 Share Posted October 23, 2016 (edited) Agree with others - you often pay more in store as you are also getting the expertise of the fitter (and some fittings take a rather long time) and you know that you have the best fit for you. Whilst feet are growing and for the first few years, you need them properly fitted every time, as feet can change shape even if they aren't growing any more. As you become stronger and are doing more on pointe, what you need from a shoe will probably change as well. My dd has been on pointe for 6+ years, she knows which make/style/size she needs and gets through quite a few pairs a term, so now we order several pairs at a time to be sent out (thanks Sheila ). Forgot to mention - she's still using the toe pads we bought with her very first pair and recycles her ribbons, so at least that isn't an extra cost!
