Something to look forward to, depending of course on which cinemas are taking part: three Australian Ballet productions will be broadcast to 500 cinemas worldwide in October. The ballets are Ratmansky's redesigned Cinderella, David McAllister's jaw-droppingly lavish Sleeping Beauty and Peggy van Praagh's much-loved Coppelia.

I'd happily pay to see all of them! I was on the verge of booking to see Cinderella at the London Coliseum next month when fate decreed that I'll be moving house on the only day I could have gone...

I guess that'll depend on which chains(?) are involved.  I hope it'll be several, because both Picturehouses and (I think) the Vue chain are a bit geographically specialised, shall we say?

From today's Links, some more details - I think:

With some 200 cinemas in the UK, I hope you'll be able to find somewhere, Trog.  They seem to be largely Vue/Showcase/Cineworld.

Thank you for the early advice re this. Much appreciated. The good news is that I have booked for Sleeping Beauty and Cinderella at my local Vue (first to book in each case!!!) - Coppelia isn't up yet! It looks as if its on across the Vue circuit!

Brilliant!

I don't think I spotted a "find your nearest venue" feature on the website, did I?  It would be much easier for the London-based of us - and probably many others - than going through the long list in the hope of spotting a town, area or street relatively nearby.  Mind you, I suppose I could go on the MyVue website and work it out that way.  Oh, hang on, Empires were included as well, weren't they?  That might be another option for me.

It's on at the Vue in Islington, Alison, and what's more they are offering 1/3rd off on Tuesdays.  And if last year is anything to go by, there will be other offers such as the Meerkat 2for1 deal.

Amazing that we can book so far ahead - I'm making the most of it!

Does anyone know how long their Coppelia lasts, please?

With intervals, the running time is around two and a half hours.  However, since it's a filmed production which was never broadcast live, the intervals might well be abbreviated.

Also, there's no way of knowing whether or not there will be any extras (interviews...etc)

The director made a right hash of the csardas - they were far more interested in showing what was going on in the crowd rather than the dancing.

The three principals - Ako Kondo (Swanhilda), Chengwu Guo (Franz) and Andrew Killian (Dr Coppelius) were great to watch, with all three really bringing the characters to life. I like the old fashioned steps in Coppelia. You can really see Cecchetti in the AB's version; of course van Praagh was Cecchetti trained.
