Primaballerina1
Hi all DD has now auditioned twice for LCB and had a recall but never a yes and her current dance school only hold performances once every three years. She would love to have more experiences on stage and she has done one ballet competition. I've searched on the Internet for ballet performances she could audition for which involve children but can't find very many. We just keep reading about LCB EYB and NYB .Does anyone know of any (mostly based in London and specifically ballet) performances she could audition for?? SwaybackSapphire
There is Midland Theatre Ballet, but as the name suggests it is in the midlands. It's a year long project (term time) which culminates in a full length ballet. Ages 7-19. They are holding auditions end of Feb but on their website will always see DC's outside of auditions X
Anna C
As well as MTB, there are others - if you google "youth ballet companies uk" they come up. The reason you read so much about LCB/EYB/NYB on here is that they are probably the most well known. EYB in particular travels countrywide. As Swayback says, MTB is excellent but Midlands based. If you can get to Herts there is Three Counties Youth ballet, Duchy Ballet in the South West, etc. Or click on the tag "Youth Ballet" for a list of threads. :-)
alison
Even better, put the following into Google (literally cut and paste what I've typed): site:uk "youth ballet" (Putting "site:uk" at the beginning of a search string will automatically restrict your search to UK websites)

Lilac
My DD who is non vocational has auditions for SYB twice and LCB once. She had no success with LCB whereas both times was offered really nice parts with SYB, and performed with them the second time. The standard is lower, but then it was lovely that she had a good part in the ballet, they also did a few small different styles which was fun. The people involved were lovely and DD really enjoyed it. I got the impression all those who auditioned probably got some parts, the main parts went to some who were pulled out to do extra. All took place the London end of Surrey.
Primaballerina1
Does anyone know the fees involved in SYB?
linda.ballet
BTUK are doing 'Build a Ballet Project' where young dancers work with the professional company, I think its a week long summer school. Details are on the school website.
Lilac
From memory I don't think SYB was too expensive, less than English Youth Ballet and National Youth Ballet. Perhaps contact them through the website.
Lemongirl
lilac - are you local to SYB? Dd auditioned last year and was accepted but we just couldn't do it logistically. We are in NW London! Aren't they doing a Midsummer Night's Dream this year, that sounds lovely.
Lilac
Afraid not, we're North Hampshire which makes it logistically difficult. DD took part in Alice in Wonderland, also auditioned previously but pulled out. Would love her to do again, but very difficult with the distance, last time a friend took part so we aimed to share, but then that didn't always work as DD tend to be required to stay later. Yes looks like it is Midsummer Nights Dream. Wish they had a Hampshire version!
taxi4ballet
ENB sometimes run dance workshops alongside their performances in Southampton - Since you are in Hants it might be worth checking their website to see if there is anything coming up soon.
