balletsoccermom
Hi. My dd will be attending John Cranko in the fall and she will need access to fast and strong Wifi for her studies. Are there any suggestions as to how to go about getting it and what companies would be the best? Thank you.
alison
Hi, balletsoccermom. How long will she be going for, is she going to be living in provided student accommodation, and will she just be needing it where she's living, or elsewhere? Another question is how old she is: if she's not old enough to enter into a contract legally, that might cause problems, I suppose.
alison
Interestingly, I've just found this: http://www.young-germany.de/topic/live/your-digital-rights-in-germany. It's quite an eye-opener. Looks as though the website in general might be quite useful for her. In the meantime, I'll put out some feelers. Also, this might be of more general use: http://www.german-way.com/travel-and-tourism/telephone-tips-for-germany/internet-computers-in-germany/ I hadn't thought about the length of contract. MiFi sounds as though it might be useful.
alison
I've also been recommended this website for queries about living in Germany: http://www.toytowngermany.com/ Are you US-based, as I'd guess from your username? In that case, the feedback I'm getting is that getting hold of a WiFi service is rather less easy in Germany than in US.
balletsoccermom
Hi. Yes, dd has a scholarship to train for two years in Germany. She will be in housing provided by the school, however we have been informed that there is no wireless access. She will be needing it mainly in her room so she could do online schooling. We will be traveling with her to settle her in. Would they allow the parents to sign the contract? Thank you for the information. I will take a look at the sites you provided. balletsoccermom
Update: We were easily able to get a wifi modem for my dd through Vodafone. It was all very easy...
sarahw
I'm glad that went okay for you - what a relief! Hope your dd has settled in ok? It would be interesting to hear about the school for the benefit of those interested in applying - not much said about it on this forum.
balletsoccermom
I will update as soon as my dd feels settled. So far, they started really slowly - one class a day for the first 4 days!
