Watching a bit of the replay of Australian Ballets live stream, and from what I’ve seen this morning I’ve quite enjoyed. It includes a Swan Lake Cygnets rehearsal, The Dream Fairies rehearsal and A Marguerite and Armand pas de duex Rehearsal. Wish we were seeing as much Ashton here in the uk but it’s still good to see. I think there were some Ashton stagers there including Christopher Carr. A great start and I am very excited to see RB, Sf Ballet’s and as many other companies that I can watch Streams.

So it looks as if it's not actually available live on you tube... There's something going on on Facebook but not on You Tube. Not a great start to my day off work as now I need to work out how to get Facebook on my TV! Edited to add that it's now playing a trailer... Looks like You Tube is around ten minutes behind Facebook

I have just received a notification from the Royal Opera House's Facebook page that World Ballet Day 2019 will take place on Wednesday 23rd October.

My husband is gutted because he doesn’t do Facebook and there’s no way to share it. I am loving the Bolshoi class teacher. He’s amazing.

It returns on 5th October. We all need to save the day!

According to a ROH brochure, it will be held this year on 4th October, 2016 (Tuesday). The brochure gives a URL of www.worldballet.com, but I believe the correct URL is http://www.worldballetday.com, where you can sign up for email updates. I'll drop ROH a line to ask if they could please check which events will remain online and for how long after the live streaming, for those of us who unfortunately won't be able to spend the whole day watching ballet...

Dear Ballet fans, Royal opera house have confirmed on Twitter that the World Ballet Day 2015 will happen again this year in 1 October. Canadian National Ballet have also confirmed they will take part, but all other details are TBC. I obviously would love Zürich to take part this year to show our stars, but doubt it will take place here due to the lack of any rumours, also, the CET timezone would I imagine have many companies that could entertain the world between (potentially) Bolshoi and ROH, Paris, La Scala for examples too. I liked seeing Carlos Acosta showing his version of Don Quixote in rehearsals and all of the different classes throughout the day. I think I would have liked to have seen more individual flair in the rehearsals for fun, or maybe Guests from other companies to appear in the class - though I loved the event. How do most on the forum feel about the day? Did you watch it? Enjoy it? Or learn anything? What would you like to be different this year? Particularly any companies you would like to see?

Enjoyed Akimov's class this morning before I had to go to a meeting. Very disappointing from Bolshoi since I returned over an hour ago - lots of recorded interviews and short "no attention span" clips.

Really surprised people aren't talking about this live event - it's a wonderful thing that the companies are giving folks such an inside view. At the moment it's live from the Bolshoi and wonderful to see the dancers getting their bodies around Jean-Christophe Maillot's Taming of the Shrew with the man himself giving directions in English and French. At the moment they are with Urin the Bolshoi General Director. GLOBAL FIRST: FIVE WORLD-CLASS BALLET COMPANIES, ONE DAY OF LIVE STREAMING ON WEDNESDAY 1 OCTOBER www.roh.org.uk/worldballetday Australian Ballet | Bolshoi Ballet | The Royal Ballet | The National Ballet of Canada | San Francisco Ballet The first ever World Ballet Day will see an unprecedented collaboration between five of the world’s leading ballet companies. This online event will take place on Wednesday 1 October when each of the companies will stream live behind the scenes action from their rehearsal studios. Starting at the beginning of the dancers’ day, each of the five ballet companies – Australian Ballet, Bolshoi Ballet, The Royal Ballet, The National Ballet of Canada and San Francisco Ballet – will take the lead for a four hour period streaming live from their headquarters starting with the Australian Ballet in Melbourne. The live link then passes across time zones and cultures from Melbourne to Moscow to London to Toronto to San Francisco. The live streaming will take viewers on a journey into the rarely seen backstage lives of ballet dancers. This unusual access will throw a spot light on the differences in style between the five companies as they follow a very similar routine but approach choreography and performance in the ways that have made them unique on the world stage. Starting with morning class to warm up the body with different exercises, moving on to rehearsals for their upcoming performances the day will be a celebration of dance; the athleticism and unparalleled dedication of all those involved in creating a world-class ballet company. Viewers will be able to engage and interact with dancers, choreographers and coaches who live and breathe ballet every day of their working lives, asking questions throughout the day as well as having the opportunity to contribute by submitting a film of themselves doing a pirouette wherever they are in the world. These will be edited into a film celebrating the worldwide appeal of dance. The day’s streaming will be repeated on YouTube in full so that viewers around the world can catch up on any parts of the day they missed. Edited highlights will then be made available for further viewing. World Ballet Day is a development from Royal Ballet Live which was a nine-hour live streaming via YouTube and The Guardian website in March 2012. This unique event achieved 200,000 views of the live stream and repeat broadcast and a total of 2.5 million views of YouTube Royal Ballet Live material to date. It is, however, the first time that four of the five ballet companies are taking the cameras backstage to reveal the sweat and determination of these talented dancers. In another first, this collaboration is the first time that YouTube has streamed live more than nine hours of content. Full details of the unique day’s activities will be available in due course.
