  1. I am sure someone on here must know this but do ENB have a standard timeframe for when they announce casting and why do they leave it so late? I have previously bought late with ENB to try and get casts that I wanted but its such a pain! Raymonda opening night is only a month or so away and yet no announcement seems odd (unless I have completely missed it!)
  2. Virgin is having two sales: a. West Coast Network From midnight tonight (Wednesday) until 11:59 on Monday 27th November: up to 52% on selected tickets e.g. between London and Manchester £5 one way between London and Birmingham £11 one way. Dates are from 18th December to 14th January, excluding 22nd-23rd Dec and 25th-27th Dec. That should hopefully still include travel for Nutcrackers and other performances. There will also apparently be child and first class tickets. b. East Coast Network Available now until 11.59 p.m. tonight (Wednesday). Tickets are available between 6th Jan and 2nd March, excluding the week of half term (10th-18th Feb) and 24th-25th Feb. Might work for some audition dates. Further details of both sales at: https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/deals/virgin-trains There are some other good travel deals around - before you book you might want to check out the moneysavingexpert.com list at https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/deals/travel-and-days-out No connection to any of the above - just passing on the info
  3. SWR currently has a half-price "Black Friday" offer on advance rail bookings: might be useful e.g. for people travelling to performances at The Mayflower (are there any which might be of interest? Too late for ENB) https://www.southwesternrailway.com/destinations-and-offers/offers/black-friday?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=blackfriday&utm_term=sub2 As Yaffa would say, no connection with the company, just passing the information on!
  4. Just in case you aren't aware of it, there will be VERY major engineering works taking out much of "Southern Region" between Saturday 23rd December and Tuesday 2nd January: - No trains on Christmas Day or Boxing Day, as has become usual. - There will be no SouthEastern services to/from Charing Cross, Waterloo East, London Bridge (there will still be a reduced Southern service) and Cannon Street, and stations local to these, over the period, which may affect in particular people aiming for the Coliseum and the Royal Opera House. - There will be no Thameslink services through central London. - There don't appear to be any Gatwick Express or High-Speed services to/from St. Pancras International on either Christmas Day or Boxing Day - but double-check, because Victoria appears to be open on Boxing Day. - For the other dates, a reduced and amended SouthEastern service will be running into Blackfriars, Victoria and Waterloo Mainline (that may have a knock-on effect on South West Trains, or whatever they are called now). Victoria is expected to be very busy during peak periods (you might need to use it if you're going to BRB's Nutcracker at the Royal Albert Hall). So, check that you have trains before you travel! This is supposedly the last time we are expected to bite the bullet before the Thameslink Programme is finished. Everything is supposed to spring into life, shiny and new, on 2nd January, with "all" services to Charing Cross/Waterloo East/London Bridge/Cannon Street restored (which will probably be a bit of a culture shock to many after several years of disruption!). Experience suggests that you might want to think about alternative arrangements for the first few days in January too, just in case http://www.thameslinkprogramme.co.uk/2017-disruption Here ends the public service announcement If anyone would like to add information about works affecting the other areas of London, please do so!
  5. From tomorrow (from 0.01 a.m. Thursday, 9th March) until 11:59 until 14th March, Virgin will be holding another sale of selected tickets on its West Coast Mainline. You can travel between 25th March to 24th August, which of course covers many good ballet dates in Birmingham, Manchester and more. Sample fares are: London to Birmingham, £4 London to Manchester, £10 There's also a discount for first class and for children. More details at http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/deals/virgin-trains#seatsale Before booking with Virgin, you might want to look at details of cheap train tickets at: http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/travel/cheap-train-tickets Also, if you want to buy a West Coast Mainline ticket which is not covered by the sale, and there isn't a better deal on the Virgin app or a railcard etc. - you can currently get 10% off many such routes if you're a member of Virgin Money. (To join Virgin money, you can just set up a £1 savings account.) There's no further railcard or other discount on such tickets. More at: http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/team-blog/2016/09/30/travelling-on-virgin-trains-without-a-railcard-heres-a-quick-trick-to-get-10-off-west-coast-routes/ Membership of Virgin Money also gets you free access to stocked Virgin Money lounges with free wifi at Manchester, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Norwich, Sheffield and London (two -at Haymarket and Eagle Place). You do have to be a UK resident (not just a UK citizen) to join Virgin money - I found that they are very strict about that - but members can bring a guest into the lounges. No connection to any of the above - just passing on the info [edited for clarity and to correct typos]
