  1. Hi Looking for pointe shoe fitting advice for London- my child is 4 years on pointe and the pointe shoes are never right, they are fine in Bloch but when she gets to class she feels they don’t fit well, are baggy on the heel, painful on the bunion area, difficult to get over the box. When we go to Bloch for a fitting we are often offered the newest most expensive type, they don’t last, I’ve kind of lost confidence in the fitting process there. Can anyone recommend a different place in London? Thanks
  2. I'm a pre-pro student and have been dancing en pointe for years. Previously, my Freed of London Classic Pros have always served me well; however, recently I've noticed that I've been experiencing enormous amounts of pressure to the point of not being able to go en pointe towards the middle of the day. The pressure is usually on my big toe but since my second toe is the longest, it also experiences quite a bit of pain. I doubt it's a fitting issue as the shoe seems to be more or less the right shape and size and make my feet look nice. I use gel pointe shoes, toe caps on my big toes, and more recently 2nd skin gel squares. I suspect the problem might be sinking but don't know which dancewear stores in my area actually have quality fitters to help me get the issue checked out. What could be the problem and what can I do to fix it? Here are the options I'm considering: getting fitted for new shoes (and beginning the long, arduous, and expensive process of shoe searching once again...), trying perfectfit toe pads, or adding some other form of padding. I would appreciate any form of help! Thank you so much in advance
  3. I want to try on the Sansha Duval range. Does anyone know if they stock them in any of the London based dance shops?
  4. Hi, I'm hoping someone can advise on the best places to go for pointe shoe fittings. My 16 year old dd is starting full time training in September and has extremely wide rather large feet, so we've always struggled with pointe shoes. She currently wears Wear moi size 7.5 XXXX, but these aren't really supporting her anymore. Any advice on makes, fittings etc would be great. Thanks 😊
  5. Can someone please recommend a suffolk pointe shoe fitter in or near London please? Does one exist?
  6. Hi, my daughter is 11 and is getting conflicting information re the transition to pointe work. Her main teacher is adamant she isn’t ready yet and I have to say I agree with her. But the teachers at her associate programme have told her that she’ll be held back if she’s not on pointe as the rest of the girls in her class are (she’s one of the youngest in her group) I am sure there’s plenty of discussion on this in the forums but I didn’t manage to find it! Thanks everyone
  7. My dtr has such narrow feet! Looking for ideas on what other ballet shoes to try. so Danca 116 is baggy on the forefoot. Capezio hanami in 6 narrow is still baggy -we size down but still doesn’t look clean. I'm thinking of ordering Grishko in NN. Any others we should try? We will have to order online.
  8. Dd can’t seem to find the right shoe, so was hoping to hear some tips for how to make the most out of her next fitting. She has narrow feet and often struggles to get over the box, any tips on a good shoe? So far she has tried Grishko 2007 pro flex (fitters always gravitate towards this but Dd thinks it’s a bit too hard?) Freed - did not like, fitting was very thorough but she found them hard to dance in She is going to try R Class now, RC22, but they put her in a W3 which seems rather wide. Any tips for our next purchase? Can someone point us in the right direction for narrow, not very strong/flexible feet? She has been in pointe for about 18 months now.
  9. Hi Can anyone point me in direction of a shop/shops stocking the best range for Russian pointe/R-class/energetiks in UK . Discovered all now the same 'shoe' and now finally got name in all brands- sapfir / JW-S / stella .......... never thought finding pointe shoes would become so hard - thankyou x
  10. DD is nearly 11 and very excited to be allowed to start pointe work in September. We live near London so I was thinking of booking appointments at Freed, Bloch and Dancia and then seeing which suit her best. Is that the done thing? I have a feeling she will be tricky to fit as she is already a size 5 shoe, has extremely flexible "banana" feet but also very strong. Her teacher seems to think she is going to find pointe a challenge due to her very flexible feet and high arches, and is also likely to destroy shoes quickly! Just wondering if there are any general tips? I did ballet, including pointe work, up to the age of 15 but am certainly not an expert in pointe shoes. Her teacher won't be able to come with us.
  11. Hi! I’m an adult returning to ballet. I used to wear a Grishko Ulanava I, but would like something with a larger platform for stability as I build strength. I have VERY compressible foot, and low but flexible arch. If the vamp is too wide, I slide down and crush my toes. Any suggestions on a good shoe for me would be appreciated. XO
  12. Hi I’m wondering if anyone can recommend some pointe shoes that will cope with very strong highly arched feet with high insteps that are quite broad across the metatarsals? My DD wears Bloch European Strong which have a nice curve to fit her high arch but they get worn through very quickly. I am really interested to know if there are any Grishko shoes or similar that offer that kind of support but also don’t die quickly. She has recently turned 15 and has been learning repertoire including pas de deux.
  13. Firstly, I sincerely do not mean this post to be unsympathetic to the situation in Ukraine and the resultant sanctions on Russia, as I really feel for everyone on both sides, particularly the ordinary people like me who have had no say in what is going on and will continue to be used as pawns. Secondly, my eldest DD wears Grishko pointe shoes which have been difficult enough to get hold of since Brexit and Covid lockdowns, and I imagine they will be absolutely impossible now. Plus, ethically, I would prefer not to buy them for her at present. My DD has gone through a number of makes over the last few years and now I have asked her to look for an alternative. She would like to try So Danca pointe shoes but I can't seem to find any stockists online and don't know of any fitters either. Do any of you lovely folk know of a shop that does fit them, preferably near Birmingham or London, that we could try? Many thanks,
  14. Hi, im taking my daughter to her first pointe shoe fitting tomorrow. I know it’s going to be super expensive but I just wanted to know any hints or tips. She’s been on Demi for a few months and her teacher said it’s time to get the full pointes. I just don’t want to get ripped off with unnecessary stuff but want to protect her feet from any damage. Can you let me know must have accessories ( I know about pouches) we’ve been going to this shop for the last 9 years and they have a fabulous range.
  15. I’m hoping someone can help me! I’ve been darning pointe shoes for a while but have recently been given a pair of Bloch Lisse to darn. They have the toughest satin which makes it near impossible to get a needle through. Does anyone here have any tips that can help me? Is there a method of temporarily softening the satin maybe? I’ve searched through the forums but can’t find anything. 😞
  16. Can anyone tell me if they have found pointe shoe ribbon but narrow? I need a really soft ribbon but it’s needs to be only 1.5cm wide
  17. My DD is considering the above named pointe shoes and I was wondering if anyone has experience of when these shoes are appropriate? Ideal age or years of pointe experience needed? X
  18. Could anyone please recommend a pointe similar to Freed studio pro V vamp . My dd’s shoe is currently out of stock . She has narrow bendy feet but not huge arches . She’s based in London so can shop around a bit . Any recommendations would be very welcome , apologies if this post is in the wrong place .
  19. A question for parents with daughters at vocational level. I know this is different for each individual but just trying to gauge how many pairs of pointe shoes the average vocational school dancer goes through in a year.
