  1. Hello there, please to meet you! My name is Miles and I have been a professional ballet dancer for over a decade now. I don’t think there is a forum for dance related internet promotions! I’d be happy to see others promote their ballet content here too. Please guide me to a promotion thread if there is one out there already but I wanted to start a thread to advertise my YouTube channel to the unique and ballet understanding users here on balletcoforum.com. Here is my YouTube channel: https://youtube.com/@milescarrott?si=LLtZIq7FQXSWrnZ2 please feel free to watch a video before subscribing and if you enjoy my content as a pro ballet dancer I’d love to hear from you in the comments. My long videos may spark interest in true ballet lovers! Here is my latest: https://youtu.be/P4gEyAsSNss?si=O0zPMdpn_-m4niDx The reason behind this is I’m trying to start a community that understands ballet whether you are a ballet lover, ballet dancer or interested in dance — this YouTube Channel is for you! From long documentary videos, on my life in ballet, video blogs a.k.a vlogs to short videos. I could use a bigger audience to guide me on what they’d like to see more of as I’ve done a lot in my career! From dancing in the royal academy of dance DVD at age 12 (still me on the syllabus), to dancing soloist and principal roles in multiple ballet companies. I’ve even been in television a few times including CBeebies when I was younger. I’ve worked with famous dancers like Vadim Muntagirov! In fact he signed his book for me on my birthday and I danced in two productions with him as supporting cast. He even drove me somewhere once and Fumi Kaneko was in the car too! I am a HUGE fan of Vadim. I also was with Fumi a lot on stage. I saw Darcey Bussell when I was at ballet boarding school, did an Instagram live chat with Natascha Mair, taken class with Tamara Rojo and so much more!!! I’ve brushed with many ballet stars!!! I am currently rehearsing ‘Sleeping Beauty’ with VIRAL pointe shoe painter, Autumn Klein! I have danced with her before as the Sugarplum fairy this past December for Nutcracker. I am excited to dance with her in the next coming weeks leading up to the show and will share a video about the process this year. At 8 years old I was on the royal operahouse stage as the queens page boy in 2005’s ‘Sleeping Beauty.’ Now after years of practicing Prince Desire’s variation (solo) I am dancing the lead role in sleeping beauty. I’ve come a long way and accomplished my dreams a professional ballet dancer but having a platform on YouTube is another dream of mine. This year marks the year I would have danced all the classics on stage! There’s a lot of like to present to you. If you have any interest please join me for the rest of my career! I reply to comments on videos and plan to start a membership and give advice videos on ballet. Please watch a video on my channel. Here’s my latest video: Subscribe and see ballet on a personal level and you can request more you’d like to see! Ballet is a difficult world and it’s hard to work out what viewers like more — performances, video blogs, tutorials, advice, getting ready, stage make-up, male dancer topics, injury prevention, mental health…. The list goes on and I’m willing to do it all for a special community! Thank you for reading and I hope to see you over on my YouTube Channel! https://youtube.com/@milescarrott?si=4Sym-Zkq72GxilGU
  2. Hello! First time posting so I was not sure where to post this. I was wondering if anybody knew of any good magazines about ballet/dance, news websites, or podcasts that are currently active/available? I am looking for something with a global focus, but from my brief search of what is available I would lean more towards a Europen rather than American focus, and that has news and features rather than just reviews. I like to read through the forum but also wanting to expand my engagement with the ballet world further without having to scroll through too many different sites. Thanks!
  3. “Ballet is the foundation of dance.” This statement, and the sentiments that it embodies are incredibly detrimental to the dance world as a whole. The idea is that in order to be a successful dancer in any kind of way, one must first study and master ballet. Only then can you be treated as a “serious” dancer, worthy of notice and pay. This attitude, by its very nature, then takes the many other valid dance forms and puts them in an “other” category that is inherently viewed as “less than.” https://www.danceplug.com/article/why-ballet-is-not-the-foundation-of-all-dance-arts-and-culture This article and its thoughtful look at dance and it’s place in cultural historical contexts has just been ringing in my head after receiving a mail out from the Royal Ballet School in which it states ‘Classical ballet is the foundation of all styles of dance’. https://mail.royalballetschool.org.uk/76ZA-LW0C-0C9966EB387733C815GTJCF29A31C12A2D449D/cr.aspx
  4. Hey everyone, Just wanted to pick your brains on gift ideas for aspiring dancers. A few months back, I got my daughter the Solo Studio Pro home dance mat for her birthday to help her practice at home and she absolutely LOVES it! Definitely recommend if you're looking for a home practice mat https://solo-studio.uk/ Now, I'm in search for another dance-related gift for Christmas. Any suggestions? Curious to hear your thoughts.

  9. Hello, my name is Amy and I am the recent founder of a pre-vocational dance training organisation called Youth Ballet North based in Newcastle. I myself have danced with various Ballet companies including Northern Ballet and am originally from Newcastle. My aim is to provide more pre-vocational classical Ballet opportunities in and around the North. There will be two elements to the organisation- our holiday intensives and our weekly supplementary classical Advanced Training Programme. Our first summer intensive will be 29th August to 1st September and based at Dance City. This will be run by myself along with other current/ recent dancers who have completed contracts and performed with the likes of Ballet Zurich, English National Ballet and Opera Theatre de Metz. There is more information on our social media (Instagram and Facebook) @youthballetnorth for anyone who might be or know students interested, or for more information email amytd@youthballetnorth.com
  10. Hello! First time poster. Not exactly sure how this forum works. Please bear with me. 🙂 I am a dance student from Northern Ireland and I recently applied to Roehampton, Arts Bournemouth, Trinity Laban and London contemporary dance school. I’ve had offers from all of my choices, which has been incredible! During my audition at Laban I didn’t get much of a feel for the school. Could anyone touch on what the differences are between Laban and LCDS? Are they as good as each-other etc. I have a few weeks to make a decision and right now I am finding it difficult to find information which clearly outlines what makes each conservatoire different. I am a relatively new starter to the dance world. (Began dancing at 18, now 23) and am not really sure how to navigate narrowing down my choices. Thank you ever so much to whoever takes the time to read this!
  11. Hello I was happy to discover this forum. Would anyone be able to advise if the G2 ballet exam follows the same sequence of exercises as they are set out on the practice DVD and as they practice during lessons? I'm hoping that's the case and that the examiner doesn't request exercises in a different order.... as that would be a stumbling block to my daughter's learning disability (verbal commands are a real issue - even matching the labels left and right, or counting in her head will throw her). Thisbwill be her first dance exam. She has failed swim assessments before due to being given verbal left right commands and going the wrong way or being asked to perform a certain number of something and not being able to count them herself. I'm hoping ballet exams are more predictable. Thanks in advance.
  12. Hi I’ve only ever commented on one thread on here so I guess you could say I’m still a newbie. My DD is Year 9 and is looking at possibly auditioning for Upper Schools when the time comes. She was a JA and got to Elmhurst auditions finals but in 2020 so because she had decided she didn’t want to live away from home, we didn’t go to the final audition, just as covid was about to start. My question is, I’m not that much of a ballet mum and other than the 4 main schools, which other options are there at 16 years old? We are looking at classical ballet though she also does contemporary, modern, jazz. I’d love to hear of experiences of upper school particularly from those who joined in year 12 from mainstream schools. Have they found it difficult being up against those who may have gone through lower school training?
  13. Hi There, Just jumping on to say hello and to remind you that I have private and semi/private coaching classes over Christmas and new year. Plus... 18. A morality tale or flight of fancy? From Thursday 13 - Sunday 16 April 2023 London Children's Ballet presents the much loved story of Snow White. With a cast of 50 talented young dancers aged 9 - 16 this classic children's story is brought to life after months of rehearsals. There are many versions, known in different countries, of Snow White which was first formally authored by the Brothers Grimm in a collection of fairy stories published in Germany in 1812. Originally the seven characters were not so charming, forcing Snow White to wash, cook and clean for them. It was the Walt Disney film of 1937 that created the characters audiences have grown to love. All versions of Snow White relish the villain, the Evil Queen and her direct opposite, the vulnerable innocent Snow White who is banished to the forest as punishment for her own vanity perhaps? For the sake of drama and feeling the Evil Queen has her come-uppance whilst Snow White finds ultimate love in this 80-minute story ballet. Gala Performance will take place at 5.30 pm on Saturday 15 April https://londonchildrensballet.formstack.com/forms/2023galaperformance Further performances run from: Thursday 13 April at 7 pm Friday 14 April at 1 pm and 7 pm Saturday 15 April at 1.30 pm Sunday 16 April at 12.30 pm and 4.30 pm https://www.sadlerswells.com/whats-on/london-childrens-ballet-snow-white/ Ticket prices from £18 - £55 Artistic Director Ruth Brill has gathered a team of creative talents including the choreographer Gavin McCaig who trained at the Dance School of Scotland and English National Ballet School before joining Northern Ballet. In 2019 he created a short film for Northern Ballet’s Digital Platform, Silenced, which went on to win Best Dance Short at the New Renaissance Film Festival in London. In 2021, his first children’s ballet Pinocchio premiered for Northern Ballet in Leeds before a national tour. More recently, he choreographed a new narrative work for Images 2022 Assembly Line which toured to several venues including Lilian Baylis at Sadler’s Wells. Composer Richard Norris trained as a classical pianist at the Royal College of Music and joined Tring Park School for The Performing Arts in 2002. He spent two years in Japan where he became Director of Music at the A.I.S. Ballet School in Osaka, before returning to Tring in 2007, where he has worked ever since. Previous commissions with London Children’s Ballet include the first Snow White (2009) choreographed by Olivia Pickford, the 2016 revival with new choreography by Jenna Lee and the 2017 production of Little Lord Fauntleroy. Richard and Jenna continued their collaboration with “Puss In Boots” (2018) for Northern Ballet Theatre, which was televised on CBeebies. Since 2010, Richard has played five times for the RAD Genée (now Fonteyn) International Ballet Competition. The costume designer Sarah Godwin graduated in Costume Design from Wimbledon College of art in 2008. Since designing the costumes for the 2009 production of Snow White she has worked as a textile artist for film and TV. London Children's Ballet is a performance company that inspires the pursuit of excellence and changes lives through dance. A leader in creating original narrative work and introducing new audiences to ballet, the LCB creates a new West End ballet each year performed by talented dancers aged 9-16. Outreach work takes ballet into schools, care homes and special needs centres in and around London. Founded by Lucille Briance in 1994 LCB is a charity that aims to inspire children from all backgrounds through dance, planting the seed of a long lasting passion that will enrich their lives. With her retirement after 25 years at the helm ex-English National Ballet and Birmingham Royal Ballet dancer and choreographer Ruth Brill became LCB's Artistic Director. Each year, a favourite children’s story is developed with an original scenario full of humour, drama and excitement to engage a family audience. LCB then commissions an emerging composer to write a ‘full-evening’ narrative score and a choreographer to set the ballet, also working with up-and-coming costume and set designers. LCB then stages this stunning new ballet performed over a week-long run to sell-out audiences in the West End’s Peacock Theatre. The LCB Company is made up of highly talented young dancers aged 9-14 (boys 9-16). Up to 50 children join the company, through annual competitive auditions of over 600 applicants, held each October/November. The following 4-month rehearsal and performance experience is free of charge, which not only makes LCB unique but also means there is no barrier to talent – LCB dancers come from every economic, social and ethnic background, united by their passion for ballet. LCB does not only select children who are technically gifted; audition judges look for children who have that special appeal that makes a dancer beautiful to watch regardless of whether or not they have a perfect ballet body. LCB dancers rehearse on Sunday afternoons from January to April, with an intensive period of daily rehearsals over February half term and the Easter holidays. In total, they receive over 100 hours of free, specialist ballet tuition and performance experience. London Children’s Ballet fundraises year-round to ensure that it is able to offer its unique opportunity to young dancers regardless of their circumstances. Demand for places has remained so high that a second branch of the company, LCB Tour was created in 2004 to increase the number of children able to participate and to broaden the outreach the organisation is able to achieve. Four times a year 48 additional LCB touring company dancers perform in residential homes, hospices, day centres and Special Educational Needs schools with a 30-minute tailored performance, taking ballet out into the community and ensuring an enriching experience for all involved. LCB also runs thriving programmes in the community throughout the year, touching the lives of over 3,000 disadvantaged children and elderly people with workshops and inspirational performances. LCB alumni dancers include Anna Rose O'Sullivan Principal with the Royal Ballet, James Streeter First Soloist with English National Ballet and Charlotte Edmonds, now a choreographer. LCB’s working associates include choreographers Cathy Marston, Ruth Brill and Irek Mukhamedov and composers Artem Vasiliev and Ben Foskett. 'God bless the London Children's Ballet for making the dreams of our children come true' Marina Panganiban, mother of LCB dancer 'This is the only time our pupils would be able to meet ‘real ballet dancers’ and get to touch and feel such beautiful costumes…There were a number of children who seemed to engage with the emotion of the performance, particularly when ‘dramatic, scary’ music came on. A few were dancing in their seats!' Mandeville School 'Bravo to everyone who made Anne of Green Gables (2022) come to life. Simply lovely work: talented dancers, lucid choreography, atmospheric music and lighting, gorgeous sets and costumes. Continue like this and the LCB spirit will be influencing people for countless generations to come'. Georgina Butler, dance writer and teacher 'It was LCB that gave me the inspiration to pursue classical dance as a career.' Anna Rose O'Sullivan, Principal, Royal Ballet Changing Lives Through Dance: Key Facts & Figures 20 choreographers and 11 composers have set their first full-length ballet for LCB 1,395 young dancers have received over 100 hours of free tuition and performed on stage with LCB 790 young dancers have performed as part of an LCB Touring Company 11,427 children from over 250 ballet schools have auditioned for LCB 35,905 disadvantaged children and isolated elderly people have seen an LCB production through our Ballet for £1 programme; for most this is their first experience of ballet 25% of all tickets to LCB performances are available to schools and charities for £1 432 outreach venues have hosted a performance by a LCB touring company, bringing the joy of dance and music to hospices, special needs schools, hospitals, day centres and residential nursing homes LCB has created 16 original narrative ballet productions with new music and choreography 8,314 inner-city primary school children have participated in a free LCB ballet workshops For further information please contact Anna Hickman Lewin at pr@hickmanandassociates.co.uk

  20. PBT Associates UK’s applications for our December auditions are OPEN! The programme focusses on the work of PBT (Progressing Ballet Technique), which is an amazing programme designed in Australia with proven results in greatly improving ballet technique. It runs with full support from Marie Walton-Mahon, founder and creator of PBT. Many regular students of the highly qualified and experienced PBT teacher, Ellie Wright, are at vocational schools and all get praised for their maintained and improved strength from holiday training. Last year I had 7 students successfully audition and go off to the leading ballet schools in the UK. The programme consists of a PBT lesson which is directly followed by a ballet lesson to put the improved technique learnt and strength into practice. Ballet lessons are taught by highly experienced and ex professional dancers from BRB Susan Lucas and Alicia Nelson. There are some open classes running presently, October and November dates still have spaces available. The auditions for the programme are in December for a January start. No PBT experience is required to attend the open classes or audition. The audition will be a ballet class. Early application is encouraged and places are limited to ensure quality training. Find us on Facebook and Instagram - PBT Associates UK, for more information. Follow this link for the audition application form: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSe_z18ELytyO1ocNahccZceR4ZpTOxYMHMKy_1CxC7B2Zwl0g/viewform?usp=sf_link Feel free to comment or message me if you have questions. 21. Hello Everyone, Here's what I have on offer for the Autumn term 2022 and beyond! 1) On Fridays I have an online (and live if you live near enough to Highbury North London!) young vocational class and pointe work coaching class. (10 - 14 yrs) The term is 12 weeks in length and commences Friday 16th September. 2) I have private/semi private coaching classes throughout the day on both Saturdays and Sundays. Classes can be taken for 1 hour, 90 minutes or 2 hours and are bespoke for each students individual needs. Priority is given to students who are signing up for a regular slot but I keep some lessons free for less frequent requests! These classes can be taken online or live. The classes are open to vocational students who wish to enhance their training; pre-vocational students who are preparing for auditions over the coming year and professional dancers wishing for a technique boost! (There is a small amount of availability during week days and evenings too) 3) I have non-vocational ballet and jazz classes for teenagers and young adults who love to dance but are taking it recreationally rather than vocationally. These classes are held in Highbury North London. These are super fun and a great workout for young people! Please feel free to email me sarah@sarahtoner.co.uk or DM me on Instagram sarahtoner45 for more information or a chat about how I can help! I don't post much but I a still around Love and best wishes, Sarah xxx
  22. Hello All, I have 'back to training' private/semi private coaching classes in North London from 29th August - September 16th. There are still some slots available so if anyone would like a boost before returning to school do get in touch sarah@sarahtoner.co.uk or DMon Instagram sarahtoner45 Love and best wishes, Sarah
  23. Hello Parents and Dancers, I have added dates to my summer training; August 29th - Sept 16th. These coaching classes can be booked for private, semi-private, or small group classes (up to 4). Semi-private and group classes must be booked as a pair or group. A great opportunity to set some targets for your school, or Company, year ahead! Classes are in Highbury, North London but can also be taken online. Happy dancing everyone! Love Sarah
  24. Hello Parents and Dancers. Just a reminder that I have ballet coaching running all summer this year! Classes are based in Highbury, North London; but can also be taken on zoom for anyone who can't get to London. For information and fees please email me sarah@sarahtoner.co.uk or send me a direct message on Instagram sarahtoner45 I focus on confidence building; audition preparation; technique-technique-technique!! Artistry... Basically the whole banana... with humour and kindness! Self promotion makes me nauseous 😂 But I hope this helps for you to get to know me a little. I am a former dancer with Birmingham Royal Ballet, London City Ballet, The National Ballet of Portugal and a whole gamut of freelance work in between! I love, love, love teaching and have over 35 years of teaching experience, 9 years teaching at Rambert School, and I have coached very many dancers; professional and students. I don't post my students or their successes (apart from my daughter because she's family and she has always allowed me to use her for advertising my classes!) it's the dancers hard work that gets them to where they deserve to be. I just deliver a good recipe to help them get there! However if it helps to know, my students are scattered throughout nearly every UK vocational school plus Companies all over the world 😉 I hope this helps but please feel free to message me, preferably by email or by DM on Instagram, with any questions! Love Sarah xx
  25. PBT is a tried and proven way of vastly improving students ballet technique through carefully designed exercises working the deep muscles responsible for secure hold of technique. PBT Associates UK is a new programme opening in Birmingham in September 2022 ‘Taking PBT to the barre'. A structured ballet class will follow a PBT class where the same focus is followed throughout, allowing the dancer to put the muscle usage into place straight away. PBT Faculty Ellie Wright, Level 3 Gold Elite PBT Certified Teacher. Classical faculty Susan Lucas (Former Birmingham Royal Ballet Senior Soloist and RBS SA teacher) and Alicia Nelson (Former Birmingham Royal Ballet dancer).
