  1. Hello everyone, My son has received an offer to start at Tring Park School in Year 5, when he will be 9. I'd love to hear any feedback from current or past parents with children from the Prep School there.
  2. Hi everyone, I was wondering whether anyone could offer any advice about the difficulty of pointe work at the Tring upper school dance audition (year 12 entry), please? Is it taken at an Intermediate level (so quite basic barre work, relevés in the centre, courus etc.) or is it pushed more advanced to include steps like pirouettes, pose turns, chaîne? Many thanks.
  3. Can I ask if anyone fails the screening questionnaire when applying for auditions to Tring Park? If so, what would generally be the reason for a failed screening form and consequently no audition invite? thanks
  4. What kind of questions would you want to ask in an audition for Y7 entrance ? and what can we expect them to ask us? especially for DD's point of view shes worrying about what they may ask her, I have explained that i cant imagine them being difficult or trying to catch her out, we have auditions next month for Tring Park and The Hammond?
  5. Please ask questions about Upper School/6th Form auditions in this thread. Do also make use of the "search" facility (top right of the forum pages) in case your question has been asked before. :-) I apologise for not tagging all Upper Schools but tags are limited in number. If anyone has questions or info about auditions at schools not listed, please do post anyway. Thanks, Spanner
  6. We are just at the very beginning of this journey and I was wondering if anyone could advise on the best age for vocational school? Year 7 seems very young but are you less likely to find a place in year 9. Cost would be a major issue for us and my initial feeling is the later the better but I don't want my daughter to miss out if the potential is there, a big if I realise
  7. Hi, I’m 15 years old (born in September so I’m almost 16). I am in year 10 now and will be auditioning for colleges in year 11. Recently I have been attending lots of associate program auditions; I was accepted into ballet boost seniors but rejected to enb and csb. I still have my rambert audition tomorrow. I am not sure what to do as csb is my dream college (realistically. I’d LOVE rbs but I’m not sure if I’m talented enough so my dad told me to reduce my expectations, and I chose csb. I’ve done lots of research and it seems like the perfect school for me). I’m a bit heartbroken as I’m not sure what to do now, I have about 6 months before the audition for the college, and if I can’t make it into the associates, I’m not sure how I’ll make it to the college. They don’t respond with feedback either, so there’s no way to know what I need to work on in this limited time too. Does anyone have any advice? What do colleges look for? And especially csb and enb. I’ve tagged my top schools, however I will be audition for a few others, but they include musical theatre which isn’t me so I’d prefer the tagged schools. I’ve just taken my intermediate RAD exam too (literally yesterday) and have already been training in advanced 1 for a while. Thank you so much for any advice you can give, I’m a little stressed and overwhelmed right now 😅
  8. Hi. My daughter is joining Tring in September, going into school year 9. We are unfortunately out of the country for the new students induction day in July and I also have some questions on uniform etc I’d like to ask current parents about. Are there any parents- particularly current year 8- that can help with maybe making contact to either a) help me (any parents Facebook or WhatsApp groups??) b) whose children might be happy for my daughter to be in touch with her to help her with any questions/getting to know people as she’s missing the induction day. thanks so much
  9. I’m interested to know if anyone knows, or can point me to where to find out, the Upper School destinations of these schools’ students, this year and maybe for the past few years? I know White Lodge has been discussed on the forum for RBS Upper School but haven’t seen where they do go, and am at a loss on where to start on the others. Apologies if there’s a thread I’ve missed. thanks!
  10. Just wondering whether anyone has received any info about the Tring funding auditions yet? I'm trying to work out whether I need to book a hotel, which depends on start time. My daughter's is on the 19th March but I know there are earlier ones for different courses, so I'm hoping someone might already have some info...
  11. Hello, what is the funding like for students entering year 12? Looking for advice as no way of paying those fees without sufficient funding but it is DD’s top choice. thanks
  12. Hi everyone, I know it’s a bit of an impossible question but i was curious to know if anyone had an idea to the funding availability for tring sixth form for those not already in the school? It seems on here to be very limited however we have known quite a few dancers who were successful and were wondering how much it can vary?
  13. I’d love to be able to ask some questions about school life at Tring. Daughter has been offered a place but I don’t feel I know enough about it. I’ve sent some questions to the school direct but would love a parent’s viewpoint. Anyone willing to let me ask them a few (hopefully easy!) questions pls message me. Also, if anyone knows the following: do students that get places in the year 7/8/9 stage automatically get a place to yrs 10/11 or do they all have to re-audition and no guarantee. If re-audition does anyone know roughly how many get to stay? many thanks
  14. Dear All We have just received the rejection letter from Tring Upper School. It is heartbreaking when DD has several auditions to upper schools in the next coming months. I would be grateful of examples of children who went on to receive offers from other Upper Schools after the Tring rejection. I suppose that Tring must have much fewer places available than other upper schools given they have pupils moving up to the Upper School from the younger years. My DD's dream is to pursue classical ballet as a career. Thanks in advance!
  15. I’ve just seen that CBA have added an audition in October for 8-10 year olds. https://www.tringpark.com/classical-ballet-academy/ https://www.tringpark.com/audition/classical-ballet-academy-23-october/
  16. Hi, My daughter has recently auditioned for both these associate programmes. We've just heard that she was successful in her BBO Scholars audition and are still waiting to hear from Tring. If she is lucky enough to be offered both, she will have to choose as the lessons clash. Does anyone have experience of either? Or both? Which would you choose? We'd be grateful for any insights and/or advice. Thank you
  17. Hi - does anyone know if dancers can audition for upper schools such as Tring and Elmhurst at 17 - one year after GCSE or have they missed their chance if they don’t go immediately after GCSE?
  18. Please can anyone advise about the solo ? My pupil’s music cuts very nicely at about 1 minute 10 seconds . Do you know if they stop them after a minute ? Not had this query before , as I’ve always found pieces of music that were a minute long . Thank you
  19. My DC is yr6 and so we will soon be embarking on the whirlwind of vocational school applications and auditions which if I’m honest, I’m a bit apprehensive of the rollercoaster ride of emotions I’ve heard it to be. im still unsure whether I’d actually want my DC to attend a vocational school even though they really want to if they were lucky enough to be offered a place. So I’m looking for first hand experiences of the good , the bad and the ugly of your children’s experiences of vocational training at one of those 3 schools (feel free to DM me) so that I can go into this all with open eyes before making informed decisions as we have no experience of vocational schools, what it’s really like living away from home from 11 , the schooling , the training etc so feel a bit clueless as to what we’d really be in for if indeed we were lucky enough and decided to take this route. I’m hoping that by hearing some of your honest experiences , we may have more of an idea of whether to actually even try to go for auditions or whether to decide as a family that it’s not for us. Thanks
  20. Just wondering if anyone has any idea of times for CBA. I’ve seen the dates on their website but wondering what times the classes are. Thanks
  21. Hello there Has anyone who auditioned on 28 November heard back? It has been two weeks....
  22. Hi DD has been offered a place at Tring for September (letter has just arrived!). It says though that they can’t guarantee a boarding place yet. Is this normal? Is it safe to accept a day place (we live the other end of the country)?!
  23. Hello everyone! I am new on this forum but have found some threads very helpful so decided to put this question to all the knowledgeable people here. I have just received the Tring online audition guidelines for March 2021. My daughter is only 7 years old and starting to work on RAD Grade 2. I forwarded the audition requirements (for the video) to her teacher who said that some exercises are more like Grade 4 syllabus. Does anyone know if the video requirements are different for different age groups or are they the same for everyone? I am trying to establish if a 7 year old is expected to know such complicated content ... then we might not even try. Thank you!
  24. Hi all, This might have been asked before so apologise in advance, I couldn’t find anything while navigating. How long has anyone waited after sending the screening information to get a response about applying to audition? TIA
  25. Hi, I wonder if anyone could answer a few questions for me please. I have searched the old threads but haven’t found what I was looking for. My dd is interested in auditioning for the dance course and is currently in year 11. She is pretty academic and we want her to do 3 A levels alongside- is this actually doable? I find it hard to comprehend how you can give 100 % to either area, there are only so many hours in one day. We live within driving distance but it would be complicated to get her there. Do you think boarders settle in more than day girls, would they feel excluded? If you are a boarder are you able to come out during the week to attend other classes elsewhere as long as you are back at a certain time? Are there lots of new starters in the 6th form or do the majority come up from the lower school. From the website it says the audition dates should be published in September but I can’t seem to find them. Lastly I have looked at the funding information. Am I correct in thinking that Tring can offer a 10% scholarship plus a further bursary which is no longer means tested if your income is over £90k. Sorry for all the questions. Thanks
