  1. Good morning everyone, In April we are going to YBS in Harrogate/Leeds. As Freed pointe shoes are almost impossible to find in Belgium, I was thinking about trying to buy some in the UK. On the Freed website I found some shops close to Leeds and Harrogate that sell Freed, but so far no pointes. Does somebody know of a store close to Leeds that sells Freed pointe shoes? Thanks in advance for your help! Barbara
  2. Hi Looking for pointe shoe fitting advice for London- my child is 4 years on pointe and the pointe shoes are never right, they are fine in Bloch but when she gets to class she feels they don’t fit well, are baggy on the heel, painful on the bunion area, difficult to get over the box. When we go to Bloch for a fitting we are often offered the newest most expensive type, they don’t last, I’ve kind of lost confidence in the fitting process there. Can anyone recommend a different place in London? Thanks
  3. I'm a pre-pro student and have been dancing en pointe for years. Previously, my Freed of London Classic Pros have always served me well; however, recently I've noticed that I've been experiencing enormous amounts of pressure to the point of not being able to go en pointe towards the middle of the day. The pressure is usually on my big toe but since my second toe is the longest, it also experiences quite a bit of pain. I doubt it's a fitting issue as the shoe seems to be more or less the right shape and size and make my feet look nice. I use gel pointe shoes, toe caps on my big toes, and more recently 2nd skin gel squares. I suspect the problem might be sinking but don't know which dancewear stores in my area actually have quality fitters to help me get the issue checked out. What could be the problem and what can I do to fix it? Here are the options I'm considering: getting fitted for new shoes (and beginning the long, arduous, and expensive process of shoe searching once again...), trying perfectfit toe pads, or adding some other form of padding. I would appreciate any form of help! Thank you so much in advance
  4. Thought I’d start this thread for Pointe Shoe Shops North West! Now that That’s Entertainment is closing down any others know where’s best to go to for pointe shoe fittings from North Wales please? A mum has just text me with Bedazzled Bazzar Chester! Never heard of it so any feedback would be great please. Also Footlights Liverpool. Don’t think mine would all travel to Dancique in Birmingham 🤣 Thank you 💗🩰💗
  5. I want to try on the Sansha Duval range. Does anyone know if they stock them in any of the London based dance shops?
  6. Hi my DD has really strong feet and we struggle to find pointe shoes that last! We started with Bloch then moved to r class and she’s now wearing the freed studio professional hards, these look lovely and she loves dancing in them but they are lasting 1-2 weeks max and is getting expensive. Someone suggested the new virtesse does anyone have any experience with them?
  7. Hi all, my daughter had a dance show at the weekend and her ballet shoes are absolutely filthy. They’re white satin split sole and they’re now grey with big black marks all over them, the stage was disgusting. Is there anything I can do with them or are they just fit for the bin? They still fit and have only been worn a handful of times so would really like to save them if I can. Thanks everyone.
  8. My dd has recently been fitted for Sansha Pro DV flex pointe shoes and the shop where she usually gets her shoes from is closing down. Does anyone know of any other U.K. stockists of these shoes please? Many thanks in advance.
  9. Good morning all. Just wondered if anyone knew of a way to dye pointe shoes (at home) I have no idea how much it would cost to have them done 'professionally' but I don't want a great expense. Any experience would be greatly appreciated. swe
  10. My dd has been told that she can start pointe work in the new year and as we’re visiting London over the holidays I thought it would be a good opportunity to get her fitted (we don’t have anywhere local to us for this). If we booked an appointment at e.g Bloch presumably she would only get to try out Bloch pointe shoes? (I have zero knowledge of how this all works!). So is there a recommended shop in central London where she could try a variety of brands? We don’t really have the time to do lots of different appointments at different stores unfortunately…Thanks!
  11. Hi, I’m looking for Sansha Duval pointe shoes but can’t find them. Does anyone have any idea where (if anywhere) sells them in the UK please?
  12. My dtr has such narrow feet! Looking for ideas on what other ballet shoes to try. so Danca 116 is baggy on the forefoot. Capezio hanami in 6 narrow is still baggy -we size down but still doesn’t look clean. I'm thinking of ordering Grishko in NN. Any others we should try? We will have to order online.
  13. Hi Can anyone point me in direction of a shop/shops stocking the best range for Russian pointe/R-class/energetiks in UK . Discovered all now the same 'shoe' and now finally got name in all brands- sapfir / JW-S / stella .......... never thought finding pointe shoes would become so hard - thankyou x
  14. Has anybody experience with both of these shoes and can tell me for what foot type which one would be better?
  15. Hi I’m wondering if anyone can recommend some pointe shoes that will cope with very strong highly arched feet with high insteps that are quite broad across the metatarsals? My DD wears Bloch European Strong which have a nice curve to fit her high arch but they get worn through very quickly. I am really interested to know if there are any Grishko shoes or similar that offer that kind of support but also don’t die quickly. She has recently turned 15 and has been learning repertoire including pas de deux.
  16. Firstly, I sincerely do not mean this post to be unsympathetic to the situation in Ukraine and the resultant sanctions on Russia, as I really feel for everyone on both sides, particularly the ordinary people like me who have had no say in what is going on and will continue to be used as pawns. Secondly, my eldest DD wears Grishko pointe shoes which have been difficult enough to get hold of since Brexit and Covid lockdowns, and I imagine they will be absolutely impossible now. Plus, ethically, I would prefer not to buy them for her at present. My DD has gone through a number of makes over the last few years and now I have asked her to look for an alternative. She would like to try So Danca pointe shoes but I can't seem to find any stockists online and don't know of any fitters either. Do any of you lovely folk know of a shop that does fit them, preferably near Birmingham or London, that we could try? Many thanks,
  17. I’m hoping someone can help me! I’ve been darning pointe shoes for a while but have recently been given a pair of Bloch Lisse to darn. They have the toughest satin which makes it near impossible to get a needle through. Does anyone here have any tips that can help me? Is there a method of temporarily softening the satin maybe? I’ve searched through the forums but can’t find anything. 😞
  18. With my usual shoes on backorder, only my current pair, and stock only looking to get worse, I've been thinking about alternatives. I have really difficult feet to fit, but I remember two Bloch models being previous contenders, the Heritage and the Suprima, so was hoping to order a couple of pairs to reassess. Unfortunately, I can't remember the exact size I tried on! Both were the narrowest (X and B respectively) but I don't recall whether they were a size 4.5 (i.e. matching my soft shoe Bloch size) or a 5.5 (i.e. matching my usual brand's pointe shoe size) or one of each! If anyone has experience with these models and can help me make a more educated guess, I'd be extremely grateful. Of course, the Bloch store in London is out of both models in my size(s) so I can't try in person...
  19. Can anyone tell me if they have found pointe shoe ribbon but narrow? I need a really soft ribbon but it’s needs to be only 1.5cm wide
  20. Hi everyone, Since returning to class after lockdown I have been struggling a lot with pointe work - I was never brilliant at it but I used to be much better than I am now. Since I have put on a fair amount of weight over the last couple of years, do you think it might be worth trying my usual shoe with a stronger shank? I’ve googled this and there is a lot of mixed information - some say stronger feet need stronger shanks, some say stronger feet need less support and therefore softer shanks etc etc. It’s a bit of a minefield of information! Currently I feel like my best plan is to order a new pair of my usual shoes in the usual strength and also my usual shoe in the stronger shank so that I can work with both and see what helps? (obviously the main thing I need to do is work on my strength to get back to where I was pre-covid!). Any opinions/ideas/advice welcome.
  21. Hello dancers! My teacher has asked me to get some pointe shoes, but I don’t know where to start. I’m 45 and started ballet last year on a background of several years of yoga and weight training. Any recommendations of where to get my first fitting done would be very much appreciated, preferably local to Essex. I know there is a lady on Instagram that does fittings based in Essex, but she only works with Grishko - not sure if that matters or not? If anyone has any advice I’d really appreciate it. Thank you x
  22. My DD is considering the above named pointe shoes and I was wondering if anyone has experience of when these shoes are appropriate? Ideal age or years of pointe experience needed? X
  23. Hi all, My DD needs to buy some R-Class/Russian Pointe shoes (same brand just diff names for diff markets europe/uk/america). She is now in vocational school in UK, whilst I the family lives abroad, so I thought we would be able to order online from UK (it can be quite expensive to send from europe post brexit)but I cant find any shops offering the brand. RClass look ok and last well. We have tried other brands but cannot find good alternative. Does anybody know of any sellers/shops? Thanks for your help. Have a great Friday sillysally
  24. Could anyone please recommend a pointe similar to Freed studio pro V vamp . My dd’s shoe is currently out of stock . She has narrow bendy feet but not huge arches . She’s based in London so can shop around a bit . Any recommendations would be very welcome , apologies if this post is in the wrong place .
  25. Hi all, My ds needs to darn her pointe shoes. She has never done this before...Darning wasn't required in her old school and none of her friends/older peers darned either so we have no first hand experience of this. Amazingly neither does her teacher 🤔 I have researched a little on the internet but I cant find the answers to a few specific questions about the the practicalities, maybe someone here can help.... Thread - I understand crochet thread is good to use, but am not sure what thickness or colour. Any recommendations? Needles - Is a curved needle really easier to use? As for the actual darning stitches and style I have found many videos, it seems to be a really personal thing...once a dancer picks a method they seem to stick with it. I have the impression many dancers copy the teachers style. Does anyone have any strong recommendations about the stitches/style? As always thanks for any help/tips. It's really great that people are happy to share their knowledge.
