  10. BRB has today sent an email about their production of Nutcracker. It includes the sad news that Michael O'Hare is retiring on the evening performance of Nutcracker on Friday 8 December. He has been with the company for 43 years and was one of their best male dancers (some might claim an even better dancer than brother Kevin!), wonderful in all the Ashton roles he danced and, more recently, equally wonderful in character roles (one of the most impressive, scary, Lord Capulets), including Drosselmeyer in Nutcracker, the role he will be exiting in. So special was he that I'd often select, in recent years, a performance in which he was appearing rather than the dancers in the leading classical roles. I have just booked that performance- and hope I'll meet some of his other fans.
  11. Selling 1 ticket for The Royal Ballet's Nutcracker on Thursday 21st December 7:30pm, on behalf of my friend visiting from the New York (his schedule changed). Amphitheatre L-71, ÂŁ32 Cast: Francesca Hayward, Alexander Campbell, Thomas Whitehead, Leticia Stock, Taisuke Nakao Please leave a note here and send a personal message. Many thanks, Silke
  12. This delightfully fresh, cheerful, colourful, charming and beguiling production opened tonight in Woking and is a definite audience pleaser with a lot to enjoy. Gavin McCaig worked much magic as Herr Drosselmeyer and his smile was infectious throughout. Nothing dark or sinister there. Rachael Gillespie as Clara is perfectly paired with Harris Beattie as the Nutcracker Prince. The NB Sinfonia sparkled under the baton of Jonathan Lo. A joyful evening.
  13. SCS d50 available for tonight Tuesday 10th January ÂŁ11. send a DM and leave a note here if interested.
  14. Amid all the (real) snowflakes, cold snaps, strikes and various dramas last week, English National Ballet’s annual season of Nutcracker and a winter full length ballet (Swan Lake this year) began at the London Coliseum on 15 December with debuts in the production by new soloist Lorenzo Trossello (Nephew), and debuts in lead roles by Ivana Bueno (Clara), Fernando CarratalĂĄ Coloma (Nephew), Erik Woolhouse (Nephew). Looking forward to reading forum members’ reviews, impressions and thoughts on the various performances before and after we catch our show. For those who enjoy checking out company dancer and photographer Amber Hunt’s Pointe Shoe Christmas Tree in its different colours and themes every year, this year’s theme is a green tree (of green shoes), with purple shoe ribbon swags and “bows” of purple shoes, and a silvery pointe shoe “star” on top. It reminds me of Cinderella’s ball dress in the Cinderella films, and might be a nod to their upcoming June performances of Cinderella at the Royal Albert Hall? 👠👑💃 For those who need a dose of comedy and a smile during bleak times, the company have followed their Mouse King, aka company artist William Simmons, on various “escapades” around the theatre, resulting in some funny videos on social media (you can see the Facebook ones without requiring an account). The Mouse King seems to be a dab hand at using computers and the internet! đŸ’»đŸ˜‚

  21. A heartfelt toi toi toi and chookas to the entire ENB company and orchestra, returning to one of my fave Nutcracker venues after having had the misfortune of having last Christmas’s performances shut down by Covid restrictions. Also a hearty “Enjoy the show!” to forum members going tonight. Please tell all, including whether they managed to check all Covid passes/lateral flow results in time, without queues stretching to Dover (haha). Please don’t forget to give extra time for travel if you are coming from outside central London, as TFL and rail companies said there are lots of cancelled services due to staff Covid and other illnesses. Curtain call photos (if you are quick enough for ENB’s speedy “blink and you miss them” curtain calls) will be especially impressive and appreciated! 😀
