  1. Hello , So just few quick asks as couldn't see a 2024 link... Dd is 3 auditions in with 3 offers on table, in limbo due to funding news dadas. As need this to commit to one. Currently have offers from : the hammond diploma l6 dance, NDC (nadeines dance company hartlepool) b tech course and just this Saturday a offer from NBS for diploma l6 dance. We are aware we can't fully choose till dada info (fingers crossed). Just wondered re accomidation. Hammond is now at tramways... so going to book n am I am lead to understand if no funding / doesn't go we won't be liable to contact. Should get 250 deposit back. NBS - again similar situation I just wondered if any 16 year old due to start potentially here , or 17, 18 year olds who are looking at accomidation. I think new medlock, dwell and artesian had spaces. But would like to try n get it with other potential new starters for here. She will go where gives funding but I don't want to get funding late and have no accommodation booked with her being younger end. She has also done the video audition for italia conti and we are doing an in person audition at stella man in 2 weeks. But with the 3 we have we are so happy so far. The btec is obs free but again she would have to stay there as we live in area with no colleges like this near by. But is our fail safe option. Good college though for anyone in North East. Audition standard was high with my dd saying the jazz tech was harder than hammond audition. It's such a long process and I'm such a planner it's hard to switch off. Waffled a bit there .... xxx
  2. Good day Just wanted some thoughts feedback/ advise. My daughter is 15 (16 in may) and so far having fab time with auditions. We only started looking December and selected few will list below. Just wanted any views experiences on the below as I love to here from people with different views and experience . 1. Auditioned for The Hammond - diploma in dance l6. Sucessfull. Accepted on reserve dada list with fingers crossed. Reserved housing in tramways with fingers crossed. Daughters current fav. 2. Auditioned Northern Ballet Manchester- sucessful Accepted - dada sucess yet to hear (April time ) Looked at student flats - very busy very expensive, trying to wait it out and see if hear re dada. Daughter liked it here too. 3. Auditioned Italia Conti video audition. Recall given. Recall in person audition sent - we are competing in florida so asked for alternative date. Waiting to hear. Nervous on this as may provisionally right in gcses. Love the look of the halls here if sucessful. 4. Auditioned Stella Mann - Sucessfull audition- place offered. Diploma l6 dance. Fab feel. We're positive about dada funding as lots who go here are 18. Slightly urban feel. But close to London. Have to fill forms in and 60 register fee. 5. NDC - offered place. Btec l3 free course bit would need to stay as we are too far to commute. Very up and coming college. Excellent onwards colleges from graduates. But prefer the other 4. Did apply performers and addict couldn't do the audition dates emailed nothing back. Thoughts of colleges, dada movement. Accomidations . Colleges experience.... Thanks stressed out but proud mum. Xxx
  3. Hi, first time posting👍🏻 My dd is auditioning next Saturday at NBS Manchester. Travelling down from Scotland. We didn’t manage to go to any of the open days so not got a feel for it. What’s the audition like ? My dd enjoys all styles of dance. She’s doing a lyrical solo for the audition. We have had 3 auditions so far and 2 offers, waiting for the result of RCS. Any insights would be great. This whole audition season is exhausting 🙈🙈for parents too. Thx 😊
  4. Hi , just looking for anyone with advice for NBS auditions . Level of ballet class, styles of solos shown etc?
  5. Please ask questions about Upper School/6th Form auditions in this thread. Do also make use of the "search" facility (top right of the forum pages) in case your question has been asked before. :-) I apologise for not tagging all Upper Schools but tags are limited in number. If anyone has questions or info about auditions at schools not listed, please do post anyway. Thanks, Spanner
  6. My DD is due to attend the 2 day summer school at NBS in July. Keen to hear views and experiences from those who have attended this in past years. There is no cost (though we are not local to Manchester so travel and accommodation costs) - how does it compare to other sumner schools, some of which can be ££?
  7. DD is lucky enough to have been offered Diploma places at both The Hammond and NBS (with 2 auditions still to come but I think these 2 are her favourite). She is finding it incredibly difficult to make a decision. One thing I'm looking at as a parent is the faculty. There is plenty of information on The Hammond's website but I can find out almost nothing about NBS. I got the impression at the audition that there is 1 main ballet teacher and 1 main jazz teacher. Can anybody provide any more information? Please feel free to PM if you'd prefer. Any other insights would be very welcome too! Thanks very much. I may be back with more questions later 😂
  8. As per the title, I'm looking at accommodation for next year (second year). Currently in the very expensive New Medlock which has been overall fine with some horrific punctuations of shoddy workmanship, muck, chaos and disorganisation/ lack of communication etc. However, we cannot afford it for next year and wondering what everyone else is doing? Has anyone found a gem they're willing to share information? Thanks. P.S. DD is LOVING being at NBS and has found her spiritual home!
  9. Hi all, can’t find any thread related to 6th form auditions so thought I post a quick question instead of just reading DD did her Northern Ballet school audition today but forgot to ask how long until results are out. Before I contact them, does anyone know what to expect? Also as they did interviews and solos, I’m guessing they don’t do finals but she didn’t ask and they didn’t say. Thanks in advance
  10. Just looking for some opinions. My dd has been offered places at KS Dance & Northern Ballet Manchester she wants to presue the classical route. We are having a really hard time choosing between them as there are pros & cons at both schools. So looking for any advice on which school would be the best option for her to presue classical.
  11. “Summer School 2022 - Are you interested in applying for a place at Northern Ballet School, an international centre of excellence in training for classical ballet and musical theatre? Our free summer course offers you a taste of what that training is really like. This two-day course will introduce you to the building and facilities and some of the tutors. It will help to build your technique and performance, gain confidence and meet like-minded people. You will also get to watch our NBS Summer Show dress rehearsal in The Dancehouse Theatre on Thursday 7th, getting a real flavour of life as an NBS student and the performance opportunities given”
  12. Hello, first time post from a nervous Dad... My daughter has accepted a place at Northern Ballet School for September 2021. The euphoria of getting in is now giving way to anxiety about living away from home in the middle of Manchester at 16! Especially the accommodation, sharing the building with older students etc. So I wondered if anyone else on here has a child going there? And anyone who is there now or has been there recently who could offer any advice about the accommodation in particular - and anything else too! Many thanks.
  13. Can anyone recommend the best hotel to stay in (location/parking/budget) near to NBS please?
  14. Hi all. Has anyone heard from NBS after their audition on the 20th November? Thank you.
  15. Long shot but if anyone has a dd or ds starting at NBS in September would you like to get in touch? Thought it would be good for them to make contact and may also help in sorting out accommodation!!
  16. Does anybody have any experience of this summer school? My 15 year old daughter is keen to go but I’m reluctant to sign her up as she won’t know anybody and she will need to stay in accommodation provided as we live too far away to commute. Classes finish at 4pm so I’m wondering what they do in the evening? The last day to register is tomorrow as I’m leaving it all to the very last minute........ Thank you in advance
  17. Hi. My daughter was at a workshop recently and a dancer/choreographer who works regularly with The Northern ballet pulled her aside and encouraged her to audition for their summer school. She loves ballet and has a good technique but because she is more of a sporty/ jazz dance shape she has avoided applying for specialist ballet summer schemes as she feels that they are very selective when it comes to body shape etc. I just wondered if anyone has any experience of The Northern Ballet school in relation to this as I assume there is a cost involved in auditioning and it's several hours from where we live so I don't really want to go to a lot of expense etc for something that is very possibly a non starter. I know there supposed to be more of a move toward moving away from the classic and favoured ballet shape but from what I have seen albeit limited, ballet schools still do tend to favour a particular look and dare I say it (awaits backlash) this sometimes seems to be prioritised over talent and ability.
  18. I just wondered if anyone has a child who will be starting at NBS in September? My daughter is 16 and will be staying in New Medlock House, I though it might be a good idea to get pupils in touch before they go... make it less daunting!
  19. Has any one heard if the dada results are out yet for the northern ballet school or when they are usually sent out.
  20. Does anyone no how many dadas northern ballet school have to give out this year and also if they give scholarships. My daughter has been offered a place for September and just wondering what the odds are on getting a dada at 16. She wouldn't be able to accept a place without this.
  21. I like, from time to time, keeping up to date with what's happening with my two former schools; Northern, which I attended from when I was aged between 12 and 15 and Urdang, which I was at from age 16. Just been on Northern Ballet School's website and had a look at their Graduate lists. I can't seem to find any info on the graduate destinations for the last two years. Are they listed somewhere else or have they not been listed, for some reason?
  22. My dd is currently in Year 10 and is thinking of auditioning for full time training at 16. I am a bit clueless about the various schools and the process and hope to get some advice on here from you knowledgeable people! Ok so firstly when should she start looking at schools and when are the auditions? Do the schools have open days? She has done ballet since the age of 3 but has also added in modern, tap and jazz in recent years and enjoys these as much so she would like a school which teaches dance other than ballet. She is thinking of Ballet Theatre UK and Northern Ballet but I have no idea about these schools and what they offer. Where else should she look? Do schools offer A levels alongside dance training? What is the quality of education like? She's a bright girl currently in at an academic school and I would like her to get some A levels too. How competitive is the process at this stage and is there anything special she should be doing now to prepare? And finally if it doesn't work out and she doesn't get in anywhere, are there opportunities for full time training post 18? And would Dance A Level be useful?
  23. Anyone on here with current or recent experience of training at NBS Manchester? Any information on the standard of teaching, timetable, accommodation, graduate destinations etc. would be very helpful. Thanks in advance.
  24. Hi I just wanted to wish everyone starting nbs today good luck ! And enjoy the next 3 years of dance college !
  25. What is the audition process like and the standard for Northern ballet school and how many students do they take for the first year of upper schools? Thank you,I'm new to this forum!
