  1. Good day Just wanted some thoughts feedback/ advise. My daughter is 15 (16 in may) and so far having fab time with auditions. We only started looking December and selected few will list below. Just wanted any views experiences on the below as I love to here from people with different views and experience . 1. Auditioned for The Hammond - diploma in dance l6. Sucessfull. Accepted on reserve dada list with fingers crossed. Reserved housing in tramways with fingers crossed. Daughters current fav. 2. Auditioned Northern Ballet Manchester- sucessful Accepted - dada sucess yet to hear (April time ) Looked at student flats - very busy very expensive, trying to wait it out and see if hear re dada. Daughter liked it here too. 3. Auditioned Italia Conti video audition. Recall given. Recall in person audition sent - we are competing in florida so asked for alternative date. Waiting to hear. Nervous on this as may provisionally right in gcses. Love the look of the halls here if sucessful. 4. Auditioned Stella Mann - Sucessfull audition- place offered. Diploma l6 dance. Fab feel. We're positive about dada funding as lots who go here are 18. Slightly urban feel. But close to London. Have to fill forms in and 60 register fee. 5. NDC - offered place. Btec l3 free course bit would need to stay as we are too far to commute. Very up and coming college. Excellent onwards colleges from graduates. But prefer the other 4. Did apply performers and addict couldn't do the audition dates emailed nothing back. Thoughts of colleges, dada movement. Accomidations . Colleges experience.... Thanks stressed out but proud mum. Xxx
  2. Hello, is anyone auditioning for The Hammond for Year 7 over the next few days? We have received an email today to say that we do not have to attend THEI (The Hammond Entrance Interview) as it’s not applicable. Does anyone know what this means? We would require a MDS due to income so it’s not due to that. Just wondering why it wouldn’t be required. Thank you!
  3. I'm the mum of a 15 year old who has danced for fun and dance school performances since she was 4. Ballet, tap, modern, jazz, the whole caboodle. She *loves* it but is a real perfectionist about it. She wants to do dance post 16 and has ambitions to 'perform on the west end'. I think she's good, certainly enthusiastic and has a great performance face. But I'm worried about encouraging this as a career path. She is fairly bright but doesn't see herself doing anything else. I guess, in all honesty, I'd like her to do A levels at the local 6th form. But she won't entertain this. She is auditioning for some local dance colleges, but is very keen on The Hammond Diploma course. Has anyone else had a DD like this and they've had a positive experience/outcome of dance college? Help please!
  4. Hi, we are considering The Hammond for my daughter for 2024. It would be based on whether we got funding or not. I have a couple of questions I am keen to see if anyone can answer please. Has anyone regretted sending their child there? How has the academic side of things been. Daughter is very academic and just want to make sure she still achieves good grades. Has anyone had a child do the dance route who has a passion for being on the west end? This is her passion but they don’t offer funding. She is also a very capable dancer but long term her goals is to perform on the west end. She currently does local shows and has played several large roles. Just wondering if she continues with this throughout her time at school would this be enough for when she wants to focus on musical theatre at higher education? Any other tips of advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
  5. Good Morning, My daughter who is 10 has been offered an audition for The Hammond, can anyone please offer any advice or let me know what we will be expecting. She is a ballet dancer and takes modern/jazz lessons ( she hasn’t been doing them long) She isn’t a singer so we are a bit shocked to see that she has to sing a song for the year 7 dance programme. we are stressing a little bit.
  6. We are just at the very beginning of this journey and I was wondering if anyone could advise on the best age for vocational school? Year 7 seems very young but are you less likely to find a place in year 9. Cost would be a major issue for us and my initial feeling is the later the better but I don't want my daughter to miss out if the potential is there, a big if I realise
  7. Hi ! Has anyone had any experience auditioning for the Hammond ( specifically for sixth form ) ? I'd love to hear about it in as much detail as possible lol.
  8. DD is lucky enough to have been offered Diploma places at both The Hammond and NBS (with 2 auditions still to come but I think these 2 are her favourite). She is finding it incredibly difficult to make a decision. One thing I'm looking at as a parent is the faculty. There is plenty of information on The Hammond's website but I can find out almost nothing about NBS. I got the impression at the audition that there is 1 main ballet teacher and 1 main jazz teacher. Can anybody provide any more information? Please feel free to PM if you'd prefer. Any other insights would be very welcome too! Thanks very much. I may be back with more questions later 😂
  9. Hi can anyone offer a comparison for both of these schools? How many other classes do elmhurst offer in addition to ballet thank you
  10. I’m interested to know if anyone knows, or can point me to where to find out, the Upper School destinations of these schools’ students, this year and maybe for the past few years? I know White Lodge has been discussed on the forum for RBS Upper School but haven’t seen where they do go, and am at a loss on where to start on the others. Apologies if there’s a thread I’ve missed. thanks!
  11. Have most people been waiting for an email regarding an offer at Hammond (lower school dance)? Just wondering if it’s usual to get an in person firm offer on the audition day or not? And what this might mean in terms of funding? Tia
  12. Hi all… from past experience any idea of when MDS results will be out? Xx
  13. Hi, my daughter now wants to go to vocational school as she is finding mainstream secondary not right for her! We live in London so have been looking at two day schools in London for her YDA and ArtsEd but we do have family up north and had actually been thinking about moving back near family, so both The Hammond and Moorland could be options too. I was wondering if anyone has any feedback on both schools and where do pupils go to afterwards. This is all very new to me and feeling quite overwhelmed by it all!
  14. Does anyone know how many places are available for funding in years 7 and 8, for September 2022 entry?
  15. Anyone have any info on Hammond associates please - the dance focused one. What day is it and how much ballet is involved vs other dance styles? For my dd aged 12. I've tried emailing them but no answer - thanks x
  16. Hi, does anyone have children at the Hammond and if so are they day pupils and how far do they travel from each day for school please!
  17. Hello Does anyone’s child do Hammond Associates or know any information about it? Thank you in advance 🙂
  18. Afternoon is there any current Hammond associates here please as we paid for the last 4 and we believe the 3 is tomorrow but we’ve received no zoom code at all I’ve emailed several emails and messaged via insta and still no reply!! can anybody shed any light please
  19. Hi everyone! I am thinking of auditioning for the Hammond lower school dance to start in year 8, so I was wondering what type of exercises you do in the ballet and modern classes, what type of solo to prepare, and what they do to test your flexibility? It would also be helpful if you could tell me what kind of ability/grade they expect you to be at so I can see if I am ready for this (it’s a big jump from just dancing for fun a few times a week, but I have been thinking about it for a while). Would you also recommend doing a few extra classes to prepare for the audition? Thanks and sorry this is so long!

  22. Sorry for starting a new thread but I didn’t want to post in several and am interested in hearing about all vocational schools. What are the chances of being offered a vocational school place into Year 10? If you are not successful for scholarship funding (or are ineligible) can you still be offered a place if you can pay fees?
  23. Evening my DS Has just been places on the waiting list for the Hammond MDS but I am interested who has in the past been offered a bursary, when were you informed about it etc as unsure if to continue with paying out if it’s not worth it a specially in this uncertain climate 😢. Also who many in the past have been on the reserve list but then have gained an MDS thank you
  24. I have 2 tickets for the Hammond’s senior school show on Friday 13th March, Row D, 13 and 14. I bought them for family who are now concerned about travel from Europe, so not coming. If anyone would like them, please let me know and I can give you the confirmation before the show. its the first time for a number of years that the Hammond has split it senior and junior performances, and it will be interesting to see how it works out.
  25. My ds has been offered a place at the Hammond for YR10 entry. He could only go if he gets a funded place or a scholarship but as these are harder to achieve further up the school this is not likely. He also has final auditions for 2 other vocational schools both of which would be preferential as they seem to specialise more in ballet/contemporary whereas at Hammond the dance curriculum is broader and he would have to do tap which he has zero interest in. In order for him even to be considered for funding at The Hammond we would have to pay a £150 registration fee and I have to say this has really put me off the school. Essentially we could just be throwing away £150 which is not something we are in a position to do. Ds is currently at a very good academic school although it is hard for him from a balance and a social perspective. He is also progressing well in dance having come to it relatively late. I just don't know what to do. I resent having to pay £150 just to register to be put forward for funding. Part of me thinks if he doesn't get offered anything from the other two then it is only two more years and then it is a different arena post 16. The other part of me worries that if we don't explore all opportunities for him now we are limiting his chances of success in the future. Does anyone have any insight? Thanks
