  1. Hope this new thread is welcome... though starting with sad news: According to her Facebook account, Polina Semionova will leave Berlin State Ballet after this season - no idea so far where she's going. "Dear friends, I would like to announce that the 2011/12 season will be my last season at the Staatsballett Berlin. Sincerely, Polina"
  2. According to a press release from Bavarian State Ballet, principal soloist Prisca Zeisel has left the company at her own request at the beginning of September. This was caused by a guest appearance at a ballet gala in Sevastopol at Crimea during the summer break. Bavarian State Ballet only found out about this planned guest engagement shortly before the start of the theater holidays. The theater management then informed Zeisel that the performance would take place without the consent of the Bavarian State Opera. Zeisel has decided to dance in Sevastopol anyway (the gala was with Sergei Polunin and former Munich principals Jonah Cook and Ksenia Ryshkova, who had left for the Stanislavsky Theatre in 2022). After several exchanges with the management of the Bavarian State Ballet and the Bavarian State Opera, Prisca Zeisel asked for her contract to be terminated at the start of the season. The management of the house complied with this. And another detail from an article in the Süddeutsche Zeitung yesterday: Zeisel was supposed to dance the Paquita Grand Pas for the opening of the season, an evening called "Blickwechsel". Casting for Christopher Wheeldon’s "Alice" at Munich: Laurretta Summerscales and Madison Young as Alice, with Jakob Feyferlik, Jinhao Zhang and Julian MacKay as Jack. António Casalinho and Shale Wagman will dance the Mad Hatter, Wheeldon will come to Munich to work with the cast. There is a free live stream on Sunday, October 15th on 19.30 CET, Video-on-Demand for 24h on 28.10.2023 starting 10.00 a.m. CET. https://www.staatsoper.de/en/productions/alices-adventures-in-wonderland
  3. Hi all, I wonder if anyone can help. I’m really keen to go to Stuttgart for the ‘Remember Me’ double bill in November but have a few questions, having never booked for Stuttgart before. Is the ticket system ballot, where you put in a bid before sales open? Is there any point trying to get tickets for Saturday 4th (realistically the only date I can make it for) as I’m sure it will be popular? How easy is it to set up a SEPA direct debit as instructed? Thank you in advance for any help! Ian
  4. Hi! I'm a new user her so I don't know if I categorised this correctly - apologies if not. Earlier this month a user asked about summer intensives in Germany and I came upon it after searching on the web and someone recommended Young Stars Ballet Intensive that's in Berlin. I decided to look into it for my daughter (13 years old). I saw that they had impressive teachers like Ksenia Ovsjanick from the Berlin Opera. So we uploaded the necessary pictures and she was accepted! :) I had some questions about accommodation and the person I spoke to was very pleasant and helpful. (Btw they don't have accommodation but they gave me a list of nearby hotels.) I thought the fee was a little high but calculated the overall cost per hour and it ended up being about 12 euro per hour which I thought was reasonable considering the teachers and location. So anyway, I just wanted to share our experience audition for this summer school with other searching members out there and say I am very satisfied (for now at least) and excited for the summer.
  5. I was wondering if anyone had any experience of intensives in Berlin! We have family there so thought we might be able to join staying with them and my DD doing an intensive course while we are there!
  6. Dear dance community, I have a question about training abroad. In the UK, lower school training that requires boarding is SOOOO expensive, even taking into consideration government funding. In contrast, the Arts are more heavily subsidised in some other countries, meaning that if one gets accepted at audition the actual training is much much much cheaper... we are thinking of auditioning e.g. at the State Ballet School in Germany, and wondering whether anyone has experiences with trying to train abroad? Thank you!
  7. For the first time, the Youth Grand Prix Germany takes place in Berlin. I am especially looking forward to the Gala on October 3rd. According to the venue Admiralspalast, the following dancers are scheduled to perform: Lucia Lacarra and Matthew Golding - Ballet Dortmund Kristina Kretova and Igor Tsvirko - Bolschoi Ballet Maria Khoreva and Kimin Kim – Mariinsky Ballet St. Petersburg Dorothée Gilbert and Hugo Marchand - Paris Opera Ballet Elisa Carrillo Cabrera and Mikhail Kaniskin (former) - Staatsballett Berlin Mackenzie Brown and Henrik Erikson - Stuttgart Ballet Nicoletta Manni and Timofej Andrijashenko - Teatro alla Scala Note: this cast has not been confirmed/published on the YGP website yet. 8. Hi there, my daughter (12yrs) is currently trained in Russian Ballet method and has recently decided that she would like to go overseas to full time vocational school at 14yrs (gulp!). After the initial shock, we are trying to look into some realistic options as most schools are complicated by the language barrier and secondary school certificates. My daughter studies German, and is quite game to study a lot harder and improve her German language. Fortunately she is quite good at languages and her German teacher thinks this is possible. So my big question is about Berlin State Ballet School and their application process- at what point does she have to take the German language test, and what level does she need to be? I know that the school takes international students but I'm unsure about how and if that happens midway through lower school..? I've tried looking on their website, but I don't really understand what they mean about aptitude test, and when they would actually look at her dance! Any advice or info regarding Berlin State ballet school would be much appreciated. We are obviously looking at others but this is one of our first choices
  9. Hi, hope you don’t mind I ask a question. I am considering Germany for my child. She is currently at 1.62 m and is 16. Yes, we have been told her height maybe a tad short for Germany.. what are your thoughts? thank you.
