  1. Hi All, Does anyone have any experience/knowledge of the Master Audition in Croatia? My DD is looking at auditioning and I'm wondering if anyone knows anything about attendance, format, organisation. I know there are varying opinions whether large open auditions which charge a fee are a constructive route to employment for the majority or just a cattle market/cash cow for companies. Her vocational school as a rule does not provide any individual help to students, no private auditors, no contacting companies to recommend students. I suppose it is possible they do this secretly for for the chosen 1 or 2 students in a year, but we wouldn't know as she is def not the favourite 😉 I appreciate every dancer is individual, no "journey" is the same so they must plan and manage their own career. But a little help to get into an audition would be useful...seeing as they still have to do the work when in the room! As it is difficult to get auditions, maybe such a large scale event is worth visiting? Or is it just a quick route to empty pockets and heartache at the back of a packed dance hall?
  2. Our DD has her auditions coming up for The Hammond (18th) and Tring Park (14th), I am now starting to get nervous for her, she has been putting in a lot of hard work focusing on her stretches and practising her dance that she has prepared, We are going through her song of choice for her solo song for The Hammond (that worries me as she is not a singer!!!) I don't want to put a load of pressure on her, and want her to go and enjoy the experience, but obviously want her to do well and give it 100%. What could you advice us to do with her over the next week and a half. Is there any questions that we should be asking at the auditions if we have the chance?
  3. What kind of questions would you want to ask in an audition for Y7 entrance ? and what can we expect them to ask us? especially for DD's point of view shes worrying about what they may ask her, I have explained that i cant imagine them being difficult or trying to catch her out, we have auditions next month for Tring Park and The Hammond?
  4. Hi all, I was curious about the audition process for 24/25 Elmhurst Upper School. As my DD is from afar (Canada), we will be submitting a video audition and am curious as to what this would entail. Can anyone share experiences, or help me to understand what would happen as she has selected the video audition option (we would not be able to attend in person). Thanks in advance!
  5. Good Morning, My daughter who is 10 has been offered an audition for The Hammond, can anyone please offer any advice or let me know what we will be expecting. She is a ballet dancer and takes modern/jazz lessons ( she hasn’t been doing them long) She isn’t a singer so we are a bit shocked to see that she has to sing a song for the year 7 dance programme. we are stressing a little bit.
  6. Hello! First time poster. Not exactly sure how this forum works. Please bear with me. 🙂 I am a dance student from Northern Ireland and I recently applied to Roehampton, Arts Bournemouth, Trinity Laban and London contemporary dance school. I’ve had offers from all of my choices, which has been incredible! During my audition at Laban I didn’t get much of a feel for the school. Could anyone touch on what the differences are between Laban and LCDS? Are they as good as each-other etc. I have a few weeks to make a decision and right now I am finding it difficult to find information which clearly outlines what makes each conservatoire different. I am a relatively new starter to the dance world. (Began dancing at 18, now 23) and am not really sure how to navigate narrowing down my choices. Thank you ever so much to whoever takes the time to read this!
  7. Hi! I'm a new user her so I don't know if I categorised this correctly - apologies if not. Earlier this month a user asked about summer intensives in Germany and I came upon it after searching on the web and someone recommended Young Stars Ballet Intensive that's in Berlin. I decided to look into it for my daughter (13 years old). I saw that they had impressive teachers like Ksenia Ovsjanick from the Berlin Opera. So we uploaded the necessary pictures and she was accepted! :) I had some questions about accommodation and the person I spoke to was very pleasant and helpful. (Btw they don't have accommodation but they gave me a list of nearby hotels.) I thought the fee was a little high but calculated the overall cost per hour and it ended up being about 12 euro per hour which I thought was reasonable considering the teachers and location. So anyway, I just wanted to share our experience audition for this summer school with other searching members out there and say I am very satisfied (for now at least) and excited for the summer.
  8. Edinburgh Festival Ballet School, founded by ENBS founder Peter Schaufuss, are acceptioning audition applications for school year 23/24. The school offers a 3 year course providing our students with a HND after the first two years and the Peter Schaufuss diploma after the 3rd year. We also offer a 4th year Graduate Company. The company will create 3 pieces a year to be performed to the public in one of our beautiful theatres, Ashton Hall or Ian McKellen Theatre. All our students are trained by international professional dancers and are taught as if in a professional company to prepare them for the professional world. Students receive individual feedback on a regular basis and learn a variety of styles relevent to the repertiore performed by companies today. Our 3rd and 4th year students have the opportunity to perform with Peter Schaufuss's ballet company on tour in Denmark and previous students have been asked to perform soloist and principal roles his most recent productions of Nutcracker and Hamlet with Ian McKellen. If you'd like to audition for the school please email admin@edinburghfestivalballet.com or go to our website https://www.edinburghfestivalballet.com/auditions to download an application form. We look forward to hearing from you soon.
  9. Hello, (please delete if not allowed?) My daughter has National Youth Ballet finals on Sunday 2nd April 10:30am at Ballet Rambert School. There is a train strike on 1st April and the first train out of Leeds isn't until 8:20am (arriving at Kings Cross at 10:37am which is too late). Is there anyone in the North who is traveling down the same day that could give us a lift please? Happy to pay half the petrol costs Thanks in advance xx
  10. PBT Associates UK’s applications for our December auditions are OPEN! The programme focusses on the work of PBT (Progressing Ballet Technique), which is an amazing programme designed in Australia with proven results in greatly improving ballet technique. It runs with full support from Marie Walton-Mahon, founder and creator of PBT. Many regular students of the highly qualified and experienced PBT teacher, Ellie Wright, are at vocational schools and all get praised for their maintained and improved strength from holiday training. Last year I had 7 students successfully audition and go off to the leading ballet schools in the UK. The programme consists of a PBT lesson which is directly followed by a ballet lesson to put the improved technique learnt and strength into practice. Ballet lessons are taught by highly experienced and ex professional dancers from BRB Susan Lucas and Alicia Nelson. There are some open classes running presently, October and November dates still have spaces available. The auditions for the programme are in December for a January start. No PBT experience is required to attend the open classes or audition. The audition will be a ballet class. Early application is encouraged and places are limited to ensure quality training. Find us on Facebook and Instagram - PBT Associates UK, for more information. 11. I was wondering if anybody could provide any information about what kind of questions are usually asked at interviews for Upper Schools? Many thanks!
  12. Hi all, first time on here:) I had my first audition this year for Central School of Ballet. It was the preliminary audition in Glasgow and I was just wanting to know how long after others first auditions they found out if they where successful. I’m obviously quite anxious and it would great to know how others auditions went for Central and what the process of finding out was like.
  13. I am delighted to say that this new approach to vocational training is working beautifully and producing amazing results. ABA is everything you would receive at any top vocational Ballet School with the added bonus of living at home. So, any pastoral care issues vanish, which as a parent is so key and as a teacher it means my students are thriving due to this new approach. The classes are very small (8/9 in each), the feed back and contact with myself and other teachers is constant and we are working more in line with levels seen in Australia and the America. Dancers attend who used to be at white lodge, Elmhurst and Tring and are all thriving with no injuries. The Staff are at the top of their game and the academic schools have been fantastically supportive. There are exciting developments in the pipeline but I am just so delighted that for the dancers and families of today, there is now another option that is genuinely at the same level as the usual top choices. I realise there may be concerns as I haven't existed for many many years and so the brand name is new. Please ask away and feel free to visit the school to observe and meet the teachers if you are genuinely interested. I won't firewall you, or sell a huge building but I can guarantee happy, healthy and superbly well trained dancers and I will always be honest as I am a mother too - we don't get to redo these precious years! Ages 10 to 16 Auditions March 29th at Sadlers wells www.balletboost.com
  14. I have just looked at the Elmhurst website and the audition dates and forms are up!! BUT it looks like this year they are not inviting everyone to preliminary. It says not to send audition fee as the director will choose from photos and only those invited will be seen and therefore pay. Bit worrying as I am awful at taking photos!!
  15. Hiya, just wondering if any adult ballet students are auditioning for the BRB sleeping beauty dreams on 17th Sept? Does anyone know the formate of the audition?

  17. Just to say my dd went to the Central audition in Glasgow at the weekend. It was fairly relaxed and friendly. There were 16 female and 2 male dancers. There was a 1 1/2 hour ballet class (about Inter to Adv 1 level) followed by a basic contemporary class. (DD has done only a small amount of contemporary and found it fine.) They were numbered in height order smallest first. The girls wore leotards of various colours - some camisole, some cap sleeved. Mostly single colour leotards, not much lace etc. From what I saw most wore discreet/low key make-up but some wore none. Sorry can't remember what boys wore but must've been fairly standard as I didn't notice! They were told results would be out soon!! I am happy to answer any questions if I can.
  18. Dear All We are again running our 3 day Xmas intensive on the 28th/29th/30 December 2017. With only 3 places left and we will cover all the key elements of classical ballet, focus on your weak points, or areas your vocational teacher has mentioned. We will work on your confidence, and look to make you stand out and shine in Auditions or during Assessments. For some, the 1st term of 2018 is extremely important. We are here to help, and also make sure you don't lose your edge during the Xmas period and that you go back fully focused and at your best. Please email me with any questions nicola@woodsidedanceretreat.com Kind regards Nicola
  19. DD is about to start auditions. She is a young 15 and looks it and doesn't usually wear make up although she has done for shows etc. She is pale skinned. So my questions are: 1)Should she wear any? 2) If so what? Foundation/tinted moisturiser? Blusher/highlighter? Mascara? Eyeshadow? Lipstick/gloss? I'm not skilled at make up so thought a session at No 7 may be in order but wanted the benefit of your experience first. It needs to be fairly simple I think to avoid un- necessary stress. 😂😂😂😂 Many thanks
  20. It's nearly that time again!? 😱😭 i was wondering if it is acceptable to ask your Associate teacher to take the audition photos? I adore my ballet teacher, but I feel like the photos do not picture me in the best light, my legs and body always look a little short and chunky, my legs look a little bent and my turnout bad! I once shot some with my mum who got frustrated by the amount of time it took to take one single picture, but looked better. But the only suitable room we have at home is carpet-ed... Is that a no-no? Looking at the pictures taken by the Associate teacher, they all look beautiful! i don't want to be rude or upset anybody though!
  21. Cambridge Ballet Academy Pre vocational auditions: Cambridge Ballet Academy is look for dancers aged 10 - 18 to join its Associate Program starting in September 2017. 22. Presented by Emma Northmore (Ballet Boost) at Pineapple studios for £65. I am pleased to be offering one day workshops on audition techniques with individual feedback forms for all dancers. Monday 24th Oct - those interested in Vocational Upper school auditions Wednesday 26th Oct - those planning to audition for Vocational Lower Schools Friday 28th Oct - Those approaching the minefield of Company auditions open to aged 16 and over. These days will be starting at 11am with a ballet class full of advice (body language, etiquette, presence, application of technique in a foreign environment etc)and many many more tips for the auditionee including as much knowledge as I can give of the work to be expected within each schools audition. They will need to bring at least two other leotard options as I may suggest a different style or colour will help etc! This will all be pointed out during the morning class. After a short lunch there will be a Mock Audition with a relevant guest teacher and we will be replicating the whole audition environment so they feel nervous and learn to manage this important and difficult aspect. These skills are lifelong for the potential ballet dancer so the day is open to all students wishing to refine their work and open up their chances of success in any stressful situation such as assessments, exams and performances. For booking or queries please email me emmanorthmore@yahoo.com. As i will personally be writing each form numbers are most definitely capped!!!
  23. Help!! My dd has just got a 'no' and I am worried by her reaction. She said only 'I danced my very best and it wasn't enough' followed by total silence. No tears, nothing. She knows we are there for her as I have kept telling her so. I have told her that she is the same beautiful dancer today that she was yesterday, that's it is only one opinion and others may look for other qualities...But not really sure how best to help in a practical way? Should she take a short break from dance? or look to get some additional coaching and get applying for other programs. If anyone out there has been in this situation would really value some advice.
