  1. I thought I'd start a thread for this as I'll be making the pilgrimage over to Ghent on 11th October to watch Nancy Osbaldeston performing as Olga. I'm making a bit of a holiday out of it, seeing Ghent for two days and Bruges for two. Very exciting! If anyone is also thinking of making the trip (or is already in Belgium), let me know if you fancy meeting up for a Kwak! Otherwise, I'll be back in a couple of weeks with my thoughts.
  2. The Friends General rehearsal today was Lamb & Pennefather. I know we don't generally comment on rehearsals but given the slow ticket sales for this run, I want to say that they were terrific and there are plenty of tickets left for the matinee on Saturday at, I believe, discounted prices. Grab a bargain !
  3. I thought someone had started a thread for this during Friends' booking but can't see one, so here we go: Well, despite Terfel, Callega, Stemme, Kaufmann and more on the opera side, this seemed to go pretty well this morning. Not that there was much in the way of seats available, so I've only bought a grand total of 3 Swan Lakes and 3 Onegins, and may top up later if possible. Standing tickets were available - I got a good one, surprisingly, for an Osipova Onegin - but only in the Balcony, and that was the only one I managed to lay my hands on. Very little in the way of cheap side amphi seats. Nunez' Onegins selling pretty well, at least among the (presumably) more impecunious members of the audience. I was camping on the Onegin insight page before booking opened, and kept refreshing it, but it went instantly from Not on Sale to Sold Out! Then, less than 10 minutes after that, there were seats available, so I grabbed one while the going was good. Anyone else?
  4. Really surprised people aren't talking about this live event - it's a wonderful thing that the companies are giving folks such an inside view. At the moment it's live from the Bolshoi and wonderful to see the dancers getting their bodies around Jean-Christophe Maillot's Taming of the Shrew with the man himself giving directions in English and French. At the moment they are with Urin the Bolshoi General Director. I'm watching on this YouTube Address: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ojWqPQE1Qn8 More Details about the event in this news thread: http://www.balletcoforum.com/index.php?/topic/7755-world-ballet-day-october-1-2014/
  5. Northern Ballet are performing David Nixon's Dracula at the wonderful West Yorkshire Playhouse in September. The Company is currently in rehearsal and tweeted this picture today. It reveals 3 Draculas to whet our appetite - Toby Batley, Javier Torres and Giuliano Contadini

  10. Just watching the ice-skating and wondering how long before Ballet becomes an Olympic sport marked on 'technical' and 'artistic merit' ratings. It's already happening in competitions, so why not? Oh how I long for the days when ballet really was an art and no-one was judged on how high their leg is or how high they can jump.
