  1. A wonderful step in the right direction for you all. The quote from Alice in Wonderland brought tears to my eyes with the thought of all you are going through. Don't look back now and good luck with the next stage.
  2. Wonderful news how encouraging!
  3. They usually notify after the scholarship auditions take place; which are being held a week later this year and are usually at the end of April. I think they were around the 28th April last year.

    Family matters

So sorry to hear your sad news Julie, my thoughts are with you and your family. This was read at the funeral I attended this week for a dear friend, she had been unwell since Christmas and died peacefully at her daughter's home. The service was mainly secular but ended with this message. I had not heard it before; but with the sun shining and spring flowers evident in the grounds where the funeral was held, it was somehow both fitting and moving. God's Garden God looked around his garden And found an empty place, He then looked down upon the earth And saw your tired face. He put his arms around you And lifted you to rest. God's garden must be beautiful He always takes the best. He knew that you were suffering He knew you were in pain. He knew that you would never Get well on earth again. He saw the road was getting rough And the hills were hard to climb. So he closed your weary eyelids And whispered, 'Peace be Thine'. It broke our hearts to lose you But you didn't go alone, For part of us went with you The day God called you home.
  5. I do not have direct experience myself from what I understnad about what is stated here, even with a 'full' DADA it appears to me that one is looking in the least at paying £8,000 in top up fees and accomodation. The 'poor-poor' can't find this money already and are unable to access training that is DADA funded, talented or not. What was said to your daughter Ecarte was unkind, but I wonder where the girl in question was given that opinion, clearly from an adult comment or perspective. I think our young people are under a lot of stress at this difficult time having to take on board very grown up issues of finance in a complex situation where the adults around them do not always think carefully about how they phrase things for younger ears. The result being the comment made. It must be very hard for all these young people whatever their background to learn to deal with all the issues involved in this audition and selection process. I gues for some disappointment is going to be harder to deal with than others.
  6. Rinse out ketchup bottles and brown sauce bottles that have the annoyingly last spoonfuls left in the bottom with a little hot water and add it to your bolognaise mix, chilli, shepherds pie etc
  7. Have you looked at Kate Simmons www.ksd-online.co.uk/courses-qualifications/
  8. So sorry to hear that you dancer is so poorly. I have tried to pm you but it says you can not receive any more messages. Apart from keeping your daughter’s spirits up, it is a very worrying and stressful time for you too I am sure and I send my best wishes and thoughts to you and your family. I think Jack Widdowson is also a truly inspiring person. There are I am sure lots you can do,such as the little things that all help with dance. Many people on here are much better informed than I am and could perhaps offer some ‘little steps’ you could take. I am thinking about things like strengthening feet with flexibands, watching the grade dvd's so you know the music, exercises and the terminology really well ready for returning. Have a look at the Prix de Lausanne finals, they are short solo's. Choose a favourite solo or variation that you particularly like and learn it in your head. Watch it so you can imagine yourself dancing the part. Learn some basis music theory. Look at costume designs/stage design and design some of your own. Some gentle swimming and later on start thinking of cardiovascular activities, use of a cross trainer, static bike, I imagine a physio could advise with these. Even if it is only for 30seconds initially! Small steps and above all make a mental note or even write on the calendar that day’s achievements; however small. My advice would be for your daughter listen to her body.Today I got up. Today I got up and I had a shower. Today I read a page of a book. So hard I know, but try to look for the positives you achieve and then you will find it easier to stay more positive. Look after you, where you are now and build from there. I wonder whether timetabling 'dance related activities' into the day in a few little blocks, a bit like the timings that one attends dance classes, then this way the whole day isn't about dance and those periods are about the positive steps she is doing towards a return to dance and filling gaps in the meantime. Not sure if that makes sense! But, Good luck and very best wishes.

    Happy News!

I loved your post Anjuli and I have been thinking about it a lot since reading it yesterday. It is interesting, I hadn't thought about performance as meeting the different needs of the audience or of course about the emotion they bring to watching a performance. We could almost start a new thread with contributions of differing characters!
